BREAKING: SWAT On Scene Of Deputy Shot


An Escambia County deputy was shot on Wednesday while responding to a call for a trespasser.

Escambia County, FL - An Escambia County deputy was shot while responding to a call about a trespasser on Wednesday afternoon.

Escambia County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Amber Southard told WEAR that deputies responded to the area of Avery Street and Hollywood Avenue in reference to a person trespassing, and upon arrival, the trespasser fired a gun at them.

The sheriff's office said at least one of the shots ricocheted and struck a deputy.

The deputy suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital, Officer Southard said.

After the suspect shot the deputy, he ran inside a home and barricaded himself inside, police said.

Additional deputies and the SWAT team responded and were on scene negotiating with the man, WEAR reported.

UPDATE: The suspect was identified as 60 year old Dale Allen Brown. Allie Norton with WEAR reports that the deputy who was hit is not injured.
