Sacramento County, CA - A Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputy was shot in the face during a fight with a suspect Tuesday night. After shooting the deputy, the suspect fled the area.
The incident happened just before 6 PM. CBS Sacramento reports that dispatchers got a call about the deputy fighting with a suspect at the light rail station by Watt Avenue and I-80. Details about what led up to the fight have not yet been released.
During the fight, the suspect shot the deputy in the face and fled the area on foot.
A Sacramento County Sheriff’s helicopter was in the air at the time and spotted the suspect fleeing the area. The suspect was last seen going towards the Red Roof Inn.
SWAT officers have the area contained and are working to take the suspect into custody.
The injured deputy was transported to Mercy San Juan hospital. The deputy's condition has not been released at this time, but he was alive and talking.
No other details are known about the suspect or deputy at this time. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office is asking everybody to avoid the area at this time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured deputy and everybody hunting the scumbag who shot him.
UPDATE:The Deputy is stable and the 27-year old suspect was taken into custody after a couple hour standoff in the hotel.
