Paris, France - A car has crashed into a police van and burst into flames in the Champs Elysees area of central Paris. Police sources are saying that the attack was a deliberate act.
The driver of the car, who was armed, was knocked unconscious when he rammed the police van, according to BBC News. No police officers or bystanders were injured in the attack.
Witnesses report hearing gunshots after the attack started, suggesting that officers opened fire on the attacker while he was presumably unconscious in a burning car. A French security official said that the attacker was "most probably" dead.
The area around the scene has been evacuated and the bomb squad is en route.
That attack comes while France is in a state of emergency following a wave of deadly terrorist attacks in recent years.
