BREAKING: One Dead, Three Others Shot, Including Officer

Four people, including one police officer, were shot when police responded to a home invasion call.

Charleston, WV - Four people were shot Thursday night in Charleston, and one of them is a police officer.

Officers responded to a report of a home invasion at around 11 p.m. in the 600 block of Albert St.

After officers arrived, a gunfight broke out. One person is dead from their gunshot wounds, one Charleston police officer was shot, and two other unidentified people were wounded.

Police have not said if the dead person, or wounded people, are suspects or victims.

The officer's bulletproof vest stopped the bullet, Kanawha Metro 911 dispatchers said. They said the officer appeared to be “okay,” according to the Charleston Gazette-Mail.

The Gazette-Mail reported that multiple agencies, including the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office, the West Virginia State Police, the Charleston Police, and several local municipalities all responded to assist at the incident.

Police were on the scene of the shooting until after 7 a.m. Friday gathering evidence, according to WSAZ.

Police have not said whether any arrests have been made in the case.

There was no information available about the medical conditions of the other people shot at the scene of the home invasion.
