Gainesville, GA - A manhunt is underway in Gainesville for a suspect who shot multiple police officers on Friday night.
UPDATE: The news media is widely reporting that the officers were shot during the gunfight, but this may not be the case.
The incident started as a 911 call about a domestic disturbance at Athens Street at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
When officer arrived, the suspect opened fire on them, and officers returned fire.
Multiple officers were shot, and the suspect was able to escape.
Police said that the suspect was last seen on foot in the area of Athens Street at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
All injured officers have been transported to local hospitals.
"Please be vigilant and alert. We have multiple local, state and federal agencies assisting in the search," the Gainesville Police Department said on social media.
Police urged residents to lock their doors, and report any suspicious activity.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the officers who were shot and all of the officers who are hunting the gunman.
UPDATE: An officer in Gainseville says that the officers weren't shot. They may have been otherwise injured and the media may be reporting guesswork again.
UPDATE: The nature of the injuries have not been confirmed but the department said, " They received only minor injuries. Please continue to pray for them. Many times in situations such as this the emotional pain is worse than the physical pain."
