BREAKING: Illinois State Trooper Shot By Gunman

A 33-year-old Illinois State Police trooper was shot while executing a search warrant early Friday morning.

East St. Louis, IL – An Illinois State Police (ISP) trooper was shot while executing a search warrant at a residence early Friday morning.

The gunman remains barricaded inside a residence.

The 33-year-old trooper was rushed to St. Louis University Hospital with life-threatening injuries, and his condition has not been released, according to KTVI.

He has been with the ISP for approximately 10 years.

The incident occurred at a residence near Caseyville Avenue and 42nd Street in the predawn hours, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

The gunman barricaded himself inside the home after the shooting, and a tactical unit is on-scene.

A police source said that three people have been arrested, and that one person is still barricaded inside the residence, KTVI reported.

Police were also searching a second nearby location at Vanburen Avenue and 43rd Street, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Over a dozen ISP patrol vehicles began showing up at the hospital’s emergency room at approximately 4 a.m., KTVI reported.

“Our state troopers display unbelievable courage and put their lives on the line for us every single day,” Illinois Governor JB Britzker said in a tweet, according to KTVI. “Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this dangerous active situation in East St. Louis, and every day."

Details around the search warrant have not been released.

Will be interesting to see the quality of the announcement on the bodycam footage. I hoped they used a megaphone or else the occupant(s) may have thought they were shooting at home invaders. Anyway, the bodycam footage will determine to whom we should be sympathetic in this case.
