Dayton, OH – A man has barricaded himself inside an apartment on Briarwood Avenue after he opened fire on police officers who responded to his home on Friday morning.
The incident occurred shortly after 11 a.m. on Jan. 3 after an employee of a management company called police to help him gain access to the suspect’s residence, WHIO reported.
Police said the man fired at least two shots at the officers and then barricaded himself inside the apartment building.
“He was at the front door just a minute ago when he shot at us," the first unit on the scene told the dispatcher, according to the Dayton Daily News.
“He said he was going to kill us. Then he shut the door on us,” the officer said, according to reports of the scanner traffic.
The officers were not wounded, but they retreated across the street and took cover from gunfire, WHIO reported.
It was not known if any of the officers returned fire.
Police were trying to completely evacuate the apartment building where the suspect is barricaded as SWAT teams from Dayton and other nearby jurisdictions arrived on the scene, the Dayton Daily News reported.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Kettering Police, Moraine Police, and Centerville Police were all on the scene assisting Dayton police, WDTN reported.
