BREAKING: Armed Man In Armored Vehicle Has Taken Over Hoover Dam Bridge

Police have responded to the Hoover Dam bridge for a man who has barricaded himself inside an armored vehicle.

Las Vegas, NV – The Nevada Highway Patrol reported that a man had barricaded himself inside an armored vehicle near the Hoover Dam bridge and U.S. Highway 93 southbound, KVVU reported.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department have also responded to the same scene, initially for a report of a man with a gun on the bridge at the Hoover Dam, KSNV reported.

Photos posted on social media showed a dark-colored armored vehicle parked lengthwise along travel lanes, with backed-up traffic on the bridge, KLAS reported.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said the man stopped the truck and blocked travel lanes, and then proceeded to move the vehicle at slow speeds along the bridge.

A picture sent to KLAS showed that the suspect had notes taped to the windows of the armored vehicle.

A passerby told the station that one of the notes said "Mr. President, release the reports."

Others described the man as flashing notes in the window as he blocked traffic.

The incident began at about 11:53 a.m. on Friday morning. Investigators said the man was blocking some lanes on the bridge, but was allowing some traffic to cross, KSNV reported.

Authorities then started evacuating the bridge.

"Obviously when we have a barricade subject we don't know what's on the subject's mind," Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jason Buratczuk told KLAS. "We want to keep him closed off so he can't do any harm to anyone."

Lake Mead Police, Arizona Highway Patrol, Boulder City police, and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police all responded to the scene to assist, KCBY reported.

Update:

The Nevada Highway Patrol tweeted that the suspect had crossed into Arizona, where he was taken into custody. They also announced that traffic had been reopened on both northbound and southbound US 93.

That highway is the main route between Phoenix and Las Vegas, according to KTAR.

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey tweeted during the incident that Arizona troopers were on the scene to coordinate with Nevada authorities.
