BREAKING: Another Officer Shot In New York, Suspect Barricaded
Cortland, NY – A Cortland police officer was shot on Friday night and a standoff with the barricaded suspect is ongoing.
Cortland County Director of Emergency Response and Communications Scott Roman said the incident occurred at about 7:59 p.m. near Elm and Church Streets, the Cortland Standard reported.
Cortland Police Lieutenant David Guerrera said the wounded officer had been transported to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
Lt. Guerrera revealed few details about the incident but said that gunfire had been exchanged between officers and the suspect, the Cortland Standard reported.
He said the gunman holed up inside his apartment after he shot the officer.
Law enforcement officers from multiple agencies have responded to the scene to assist, the Cortland Standard reported.
Police trained spotlights on the apartment building where the suspect has barricaded himself, and have evacuated residents from neighboring homes.
There is no specific information about where the officer was shot or their condition, but recent reports said the wounded hero was “stable,” the Cortland Standard reported.
