Smyrna, DE - All Delaware prisons and correctional facilities are on lockdown following an incident at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on Wednesday morning, February 01, 2017.
According to WDEL, the incident occurred this morning about 11:00 a.m. at the Vaughn Correctional facility which started the statewide lockdown. Kent and New Castle Fire Departments have responded to the facility. Additional details are not available at this time but the situation is ongoing and referred to as an emergency by Delaware Online.
It is standard procedure for all prisons and correctional facilities in the state of Delaware to go into lockdown when an issue is reported at any site. Corrections officials said that they would issue more information later today. A source told local media that the DOC's Correctional Emergency Response Team is on scene, which is the equivalent of a law enforcement agency's SWAT, according to WBOC.
