Baltimore Mayor Discovers Source Of Murders In Crime Area: Corner Stores

Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh blamed the late hours of small businesses in the city for the recent crime surge.

Baltimore, MD – Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh hit the streets of West Baltimore on Tuesday to check on the effects of her Violence Reduction Initiative, and stopped to criticize small business owners in the process (video below).

Baltimore’s violent crime rate surged in April, to include 29 killings since the first of the month, The Baltimore Sun reported.

“We’re on top of it,” Pugh said. “We understand the intelligence. We know about the various gangs that are at war right now.”

As she strolled the streets with a posse of city agency representatives and police administrators in an attempt to showcase her involvement with the community, Pugh took a particular interest in blaming the small business owners who operated stores in the area for the crime spike.

The mayor waltzed into A&M Grocery, where she addressed a store employee, video footage from The Baltimore Sun showed.

“So what time y’all close?” she asked someone off camera, as she stood with her arm around a young woman who was wearing earbuds.

“Um, like 11:30,” a man standing next to her replied with a smile.

“Isn’t that late?” Pugh retorted, initially not even acknowledging the man who had answered her.

“Isn’t that late?” she repeated, finally directing her attention to the man beside her.

“Eleven thirty,” the man said again, with what appeared to be a hint of confusion.

“That’s a little late,” Pugh declared, as she again ignored the man. “Cuz’ it keeps the crowds around here.”

“Nine o’clock would be nice,” Pugh said as she turned away from the employee altogether, and looked directly at the camera.

“Yeah. We need y’all to close at nine o’clock at night,” she declared.

While inside another Pennsylvania Avenue store, the mayor ordered the health department to expedite the business’s next health inspection.

“These stores on Pennsylvania Avenue and North Avenue need inspections,” the mayor said. “Health Department, I’m going to expect you to get in there and inspect those places because some of those places need to be shut down.”

“How many mini markets do we need in one area?” Pugh questioned. “How many carry-outs do we need in one area?”

“If you have one mini-market on the block, is there a need for three?” she asked dismissively. “What are they selling, Fritos and soda?”

According to Baltimore Police Commissioner Darryl De Sousa, 60 percent of violent crimes in the Northern District occurred inside or near a handful of small businesses, The Baltimore Sun reported.

Store owners pushed back on Wednesday, and noted that the mayor’s criticisms and demands could end up driving taxpaying businesses out of the low-income neighborhood.

Less competition would likely result in price increases in an area where many people don’t have the means to travel to larger supermarkets outside the neighborhood, The Baltimore Sun reported.

“These convenience stores are some of the only places people may have to go to grab something within a mile of their home,” Maryland Retailers Association President Cailey Locklair Tolle said. “I don’t know that we should be trying to discourage them from remaining in communities.”

Tolle agreed that stores that were proved to be involved in criminal offenses should obviously be held accountable, but did not believe the mayor was tackling the core issue.

“I don’t know that walking into a retail business and telling them to close in a free market makes any sense,” Tolle said.

Why don't we just shutter all the businesses and move all the people out of Baltimore. That will solve Baltimore's crime problem. She is as much of a fucking idiot as she looks.

"Baltimore’s violent crime rate surged in April, to include 29 killings since the first of the month". Sounds like her new police commisioner and her new Violence Reduction Initiative is really doing wonders for the people of Baltimore. Only one murder per day is pretty good.......for Los Cabos, Mexico.

Sometimes there are business establishment that become a nuisance by allowing unlawful behavior to occur. If that's what is happening, then the police department needs to address it through a nuisance abatement, not by ordering someone to close early simply because crime is out of control in your city. If they know where the violent crimes are taking place like this article suggests then target that area and the people responsible. This is a typical response from a liberal government run by incompetents,

Just-My-Thoughts
Just-My-Thoughts

Instead of blaming the business owner for a rise in crime stats, why not go after the communities who are robbing and murdering people. If they can prove a business id dealing in illegal activity, shut it down. All she wants is for them to be closed down by 9 pm or gone forever. All that will do is make the criminals move to another area... How horribly stupid she is. The idiots who voted her in or vote to keep her in office are to blame also. Decent, tax paying people/businesses will move out soon enough......... then what mayor?

OH MY GOD ! So much for jobs, small businesses, etc. Don't blame the criminals whatever you do.

It's difficult to characterize people like this. How do they ever get elected to office. Weaponized health inspections? Sounds kinda familiar, doesn't it? Who else weaponized government service agencies for political gain? They are all corrupt, top to bottom, federal to small town. Never trust any Democrat.

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@DocRyder
You can't say weaponized government service agencies and link that to Democrats, with your boy Trumping up everything through twitter.

I'll also add to your statement and say most are corrupt, top to bottom, both Democrat and Republican.

DocRyder
DocRyder

Hey, it's my old buddy! How y'all are? Let's start by pointing out your comment makes no sense which is pretty unusual for you. Trying to conflate tweeting with outright criminal federal agencies is just silliness. DOJ, FBI, CIA, NSA, IRS, EPA, the State Department and who knows what else have all been "weaponized" as agents of direct political action. Not run of the mill, normalized, petty stuff but sure enough National Security hazarding, felonious actions by senior supervision, management and leadership career bureaucrats and appointees. This isn't late show talking point material but documented, proven, high level, criminal activity. The degree of blatant lying, coverups, leaking of classified material and collusion with foreign governments to rig federal elections NOT by Republicans but Progressive Democrats is unprecedented in our history as a nation. Even post War of Northern Aggression shenanigans pale in comparison. Again, documented fact. I haven't even started on Progressive Democratic efforts to foment violence in our streets through their shadow organizations, BLM, Antifag, etc. The level of hatred, vitriol, aggressive malicious conduct, lying, character assassination and violence from within the Progressive Democratic Party is almost unbelievable and the situation deteriorates daily. The efforts of Progressive Democrats to undermine this administration and even prevent the formation of a government is treasonous. The vile hatred has so consumed Progressive Democrats they would sacrifice the nation in order to simply aggravate Donald Trump and to no real end. As for Tweets, that's about the only viable way for this president to communicate with the country. The bulk of "The Media" is as consumed with "Trump Derangement Syndrome" as anyone. They have proven themselves to be absolutely untrustworthy to convey a presidential message without twisting and convoluting it into something unrecognizable. Mr. Trump has done some good things in his first year, Some of the most remarkable is playing out, as we speak, in Korea. Not so much as an acknowledgment from the Left. I can't help but wonder what tremendous good the president might do if he had even a token of assistance from Democrats or even most Republicans. It's a dangerous, disgusting situation we find us in and one we might very well not survive as a republic.

@DocRyder
I'm good Doc, it's a gorgeous afternoon in LA. how are you holding up?

I will say I'm troubled by a couple of your statements. I take you for a smart person, and even see some similarities between us. I want to ask you a genuine question.

What exactly makes you so sure one party is almost invariably right, and the other just as wrong? I'm assuming you used Democrat and Republican instead of conservative and liberal in purpose. You know where i stand on that: both parties, for the most part, are two sides of the same corrupt coin.

And second, i suppose you may have answered my first question by you stating "the war of northern aggression." but another genuine question, and I'm not shaming your beliefs. But why do you feel that the civil war, where the north fought the south to preserve the union and secondarily free slaves, is a war of northern aggression?

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@DocRyder
And let me stop you one more time. Trump, nor America, is responsible for the budding peace between North and South Korea. That was pretty much all South Korea's President Moon. He's a true leader and he's a man after my own heart because not only was he military, he was special forces.

DocRyder
DocRyder

Glad to hear you're doing well! Really! Ok, I'll gladly give you a "genuine" answer to both questions. If required to categorize myself I say I'm a classic liberal (less government is better government and value individualism), independent Constitutional Conservative. I have never identified as a Republican and only vaguely a Democrat back in the Kennedy days. Of course, both major parties are corrupt as are all of the minor ones. I'd go so far as to say most politicians are too. There are a handful of fairly honest ones but I watch them closely and they are almost all local. The occupation breeds corruption.
Why did I focus on Demo… correction… Progressive Democrats? Well, it’s because of the profound changes I have seen that party go through in the last 10 or so years. Back in the day Democrats (party Democrats not ordinary folks who identified with Democrats) seemed to be loyal to the country and our Constitution. They seemed to believe in our “Exceptionalism”, our traditions and way of life. (We can discuss the “Exceptionalism” stuff if you wish but it’s all positive not arrogant) This started to take a turn during the runup to the Obama administration. Many on the Left seemed to be emboldened by Mr. Obama, feeling freer to express ideas and opinions repressed previously by societal pressures or whatever (that part is speculative as I’m no mind reader. It seems to fit though) As that phenomenon spread (perhaps encouraged by oratory from the Obamas and others) more and more became comfortable expressing increasingly Leftist, hostile and aggressive philosophies. The social norms of respect for others and concern for their opinions began to disappear. This is manifest by a variety of behaviors such as the normalization of vulgarity and hostile victimization. The long and short of it is the ideas, beliefs and behaviors of some of our more radical 50’s and 60’s university academics, has filtered down through a few generations who also went to academia. The result is a geometric increase in Democratic Socialism, Marxism and the like, radicalized by professors protected from the real world by tenure. The new youth… The new youth which today drives the Progressive Democratic Party.
The DNC no longer values “America”. The see The Constitution as an outdated, racist, evolving set of guidelines to be ignored or modified on a whim. Judicial Activism rather than rue of law rules the day. All white people are innately multiple bigots and generally stupid and dangerous and worthless – as are all their ideas. It devolves quickly from there. The Party leadership believes the end justifies the means in achieving their political agenda and no level of hate, venomous vitriol, dishonesty and dishonorableness or even violence is inappropriate. Some of these people are downright evil and psychological projection is near constant. Seriously. Whatever maleficence the ProgDems are perpetrating – or planning to, is blamed on or assigned to Republicans, endlessly and repeatedly, across the Party spectrum. It just boggles the mind how the get away with it. They got balls, give ‘em that. I just wish Republicans would grow some.
Mr. Obama once said he intended to “fundamentally change” the United States. Being a lawyer, he surely has an excellent command of technical language and said just what he meant. What does “fundamental” mean? “Forming a necessary base or core; of central importance.” or “A central or primary rule or principle on which something is based.” Ok so what does that mean applied to America? The central rule is the Constitution. The core or base is our beliefs and traditions. The Progressive Democratic Party, along with their international peers, are targeting all of those things. Progressive Democrats now represent a “fundamental” threat to America. I once took an oath to “support and defend” those things from all comers, foreign or domestic. I took that oath in full faith then and nothing has changed that today.
Yes Republicans are corrupt but not nearly at the level of Progressive Democrats and there is nowhere near the viscous hatred demonstrated by the Left.

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@DocRyder thanks for the reply. though I still believe you're lending way too much credit to the Republican Party, I appreciate your input.

DocRyder

As for the "War of Northern Aggression"... That's called a chain rattler. It's what we call the Civil War and I'll occasionally go with it. Truth be told, I have no affinity for the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia. Neither do I have any connection to slavery (though Progressive Democrats say otherwise due to my lack of melanin). MY family were poor dirt farmers mostly. As far as I have been able to determine, none of my direct descendants owned slaves. At least since coming ashore in the New World. In fact, I have real reason to believe quite the opposite.

DocRyder
DocRyder

Odd, I hardly give them any credit at all - for anything. They just been dragged along, kicking and screaming (or whining) all the way.

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@DocRyder I doubt anyone but those involved know the full story. But we do know that Trump and Kim were twitter beefing back and forth, to everyone's dismay. And Pence went to South Korea for the Olympics and was very cold toward their ambassador.

But prior to the Olympics, President Moon and Kim were already in talks, which is why the North Korean ambassador even showed up to the Olympics. Then South Korea performed for North Korea right after the Olympics. Somewhere in that mix, Trump decided to tweet as if he had anything to do with it, when months prior he and Kim were antagonizing each other.

Then President Moon and Kim met at the DMZ, and shook each other's hand on both the North and South Korean sides of the line. America is a bystander in this procedure.

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

This is President Moon back in his heyday. Korean Army special forces parajumper. He's also a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and multiple weapons.

We haven't had a badass like this guy for a leader in a long, long time.

DocRyder
DocRyder

ROKs have always been known as badasses. The Sir Charles was terrified of them back in my day. I'll be the last to minimise Moon's contribution here, in fact, most likely he is the primary driver. My point is, without a Trump, Moon would likely not have the leverage to bring Kim to the table. I'm pretty sure Kim sees Trump as the surest mortal threat on the planet and grasps the fact Trump would just as soon bitch slap him as look his way. Trump is Moon's big stick that allows him to walk soft with extreme confidence and allow the able diplomacy I'm certain Moon is fully capable of. For the first time since Armistice, all the stars are aligned sufficient to maybe allow an end to the insanity. Maybe...

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@DocRyder
agreed, aside from giving Trump any credit for this. I believe he has been just as unsuccessful as every other president on North/South Korean relations.

I feel they decided to mend fences because they are different branches of the same culture. Each side has distant relatives that have been dying to meet for generations. I'm quarter Korean, so even I might have some distant relatives in the North.

Before any G.I. and Korean table girl jokes are made (I've heard them all, haha) yes, my granddad did meet my halmi in South Korea, no she wasn't an 'entertainer.'

DocRyder
DocRyder

You presume Kim to be rational and interested in friendly relations. That, my friend, is absurd. This guy and his associates / immediate minions are all insane. All they are concerned about is domination and aggrandizing their own sorry hides. Please remember their entire population lives at the edge of starvation so they can stage massive military parades and grand all day productions dedicated to how divine his line. Remember what the did to that stupid college kid who thought he could get off with a propaganda poster, Otto something. Are those the acts of rational people? Kim doesn't want to mend any fences, he only want to expand his to include the whole peninsula - and perhaps make a lampshade out of Moon's hide in the process. ...and you were doing so well too.

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

I don't claim to know his final goal. all I know is this is potentially a great first and I'm hoping for the best. I have a personal want for this to go well, and things haven't gone this well since north and south split.

them coming together will potentially end the starvation. and who are we to point a finger at letting your population starve? we have hundreds of thousands of people in our own country that are food insecure.

and Otto Warmbier getting injured inside jail? not my concern. he shouldn't have done what he did to get put in a foreign prison. I don't know what he was doing in North Korea anyway, but he was definitely up to no good.

DocRyder
DocRyder

Oh come on... Warmbier injured inside jail and up to no good? Comparing the hungry in the US to conditions in N. Korea? Please tell me you are just jerking my chain now and really don't believe that. Warmbier was executed by some unknown method for attempted petty theft. He was studying in Hong Kong and decided to take a guided tour of NK. North Korea murdered this kid for no reason at all. How can any rational human being even attempt to defend the atrocities committed by North Korea? As for the starvation, I won't even dignify that with a response. your comment is just insane. You had me fooled there for awhile. I thought we might actually have a good and rational debate. Then you pull this. I guess being a pathological troll is too great an addiction for you.

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

No, you read it correctly. Otto Warmbier should have played by the rules of the country he was in. He lost his life, which was totally unpreventable. But he decided his entitlement was larger than following the rules, and he had an accident in prison. May he be a lesson to anyone else.

Mayor Pugh is a moronic hack, elected by a city of race obsessed morons (talk about "representative government"...)...

She obviously never reads the police reports as to what time and where the homicides are committed... They are mostly committed long after these stores are closed...

Also, the so-called "police commissioner" said that the police knows who are committing the homicides... But, the police aren't clearing them out...
