Baltimore Man Tries Robbing Off-Duty Cop And Retired Officer; He's Dead Now

An armed suspect was fatally shot after attempting to rob an off-duty police officer and a retired DOC officer.

Baltimore, MD – An off-duty Baltimore school police officer and a retired Maryland Department of Corrections (DOC) officer fatally shot an armed suspect as he was attempting to rob them on Saturday night.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Guilford Avenue and East 23rd Street at approximately 11:14 p.m., WBFF reported.

As the off-duty officers were standing at the intersection, they were suddenly approached by a suspect armed with a gun, according to The Baltimore Sun.

The male suspect announced a robbery, at which point both officers drew their own concealed weapons.

“The retired DOC officer and the Baltimore School Police officer both withdrew their concealed guns and began firing at the suspect, striking him multiple times,” the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) said in a statement to The Baltimore Sun.

The wounded suspect fled to the 2300-block of Guilford Avenue, and ultimately collapsed in a woman’s backyard, WBFF reported.

He was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to The Baltimore Sun.

The suspect’s name has not been released, and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

According to Baltimore Schools Police Union President Sergeant Clyde Boatwright, the off-duty Baltimore school officer is also a military combat veteran, WJZ reported.

“Baltimore City School Police are not losing sight that a life was lost, but we hope in the future, other people will make better decisions and not try to rob people who are trying to enjoy a night in Baltimore City,” Sgt. Boatwright told the news outlet.

One area resident said that the gunman was the one responsible for his own death.

“To do something so blatantly like that, you have to know the consequences behind the action,” the neighbor told WJZ.

The attempted robbery occurred just weeks after three other attacks on Baltimore law enforcement.

On Aug. 8, off-duty Baltimore Police Sergeant Isaac Carrington was shot repeatedly as he was standing outside his Summerfield Avenue home talking to his neighbor, WEAA reported.

The attack occurred at approximately 3:34 p.m., when a masked suspect jumped out of a passing vehicle and pointed a gun at the 43-year-old sergeant and his neighbor.

The gunman ordered the men to give him their valuables, at which point the neighbor threw his belongings onto the ground and fled, WEAA reported.

Sgt. Carrington ran in the opposite direction, but the gunman chased after him, then shot him multiple times.

The suspect then got back into the vehicle and fled the area.

Sgt. Carrington was rushed to the University of Maryland Medical Center Shock Trauma, where he immediately underwent surgery, WEAA reported.

The 22-year veteran-of-the-force was placed on life support, having suffered gunshot wound to the torso and some of his extremities, police said at the time.

Sgt. Carrington underwent multiple additional surgeries in the weeks following the attack, but was released from the hospital on Aug. 21, The Baltimore Sun reported.

“He’s got a ways to go,” Maryland Shock Trauma Center physician-in-chief Dr. Thomas Scalea told the paper. “He got badly injured. The end of the hospitalization is only the end of the hospitalization. This is not him making his full recovery. This is not him going back to work. This is one step.”

The gunman remains at large.

“Our investigators continue to work this investigation for any information leading o the arrest of the person who did this to our sergeant, Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said, according to The Baltimore Sun.

On July 19, Baltimore Deputy Police Commissioner Daniel Murphy and his wife were robbed at gunpoint near Patterson Park in the 2200-block of East Pratt Street at approximately 9 p.m., The Baltimore Sun reported.

A white SUV with four men inside pulled up near Commissioner Murphy and his wife, then two men jumped out and charged towards them while announcing the robbery.

At least one of the men – both of whom appeared to be 18 years of age – brandished a gun.

The suspects took off with a purse, wallet, the couple’s cell phones, and some cash, police said.

They also stole the couple’s Louisiana driver’s licenses, WBFF reported.

Less than a week later, on July 24, a 59-year-old Baltimore police civilian employee was brutally attacked as he was walking to work, according to WBFF.

The robbery occurred at approximately 6 a.m. near the intersection of East Baltimore Street and Albemarle Street – just blocks away from police headquarters.

Surveillance footage showed two suspects moving in on scooters, while a suspect on foot rushed in from behind and struck the victim in the head.

The employee was knocked to the ground as a result of the blow, at which point all three suspects rushed towards him.

As they robbed the noncombative victim, one of the suspects kicked him repeatedly in the upper body, the video showed.

The employee managed to get onto his feet at one point, but the same suspect sent him flying back onto the ground with another round of kicks, then brutally stomped on his head multiple times.

After rummaging through the victim’s pockets, he and the other two suspects fled the area, leaving the employee lying motionless in the middle of the street.

Police said that the suspects – one female and two males – made off with the employee’s keys and vehicle, WBFF reported.

I wonder if stricter laws against armed robbery at the federal level would have prevented this. @Burgers Allday

The last time I drove through Baltimore, I was with my family, and we stopped at a red light. A bunch of folks came from the side of the street and wanted us to pay for water bottles and washing our windshield. When the light turned green and they would not let us proceed, I began to get a little concerned about what might transpire. Fortunately, they eventually moved.

This is Soros and Steyer leading the way. They are going all in on striping people of their rights...all of them...but esp. gun rights. And look how well this turned out in Baltimore...that says it all. Steyer, for those who may not know, is running for president. He made a fortune (billions) in coal and now he's for the green new deal because he sells those wind turbines now. He's AS low as Soros!

No surprise, he was a 13%er!! Devonte Jones. And his family is already protesting stating he had no reason to rob nobody and because he might have been shot in the back, to them that proves he was the victim and was murdered. So they need justice. Really?? Why can't you wait for all the facts and evidence to come in first!! Sounds to me like your "boy" had a side job you didn't know about or refuse to acknowledge. And if the officers were off-duty and being robbed, I'm pretty sure the "stand your ground" law or something like that covers them. So no ghetto lottery for you!! Saw this on the news. Of course it's the old "my boy didn do nuffin" crap and he was a good boy who never had a gun and wouldn't rob nobody. Now the family is looking for a payday because they abdicated their responsibility on raising that POS.

A couple of badasses for sure, takes balls to draw on a guy who already has a gun on you. I would have to have the gun out with my finger on the trigger to even have a chance. Nice job!
