Atlantic City Officer Stabbed In 'Unprovoked Attack' At Car Wreck Scene

Authorities said that Timothy Deal attacked an Atlantic City police officer with a knife on Friday night.

Atlantic City, NJ – A police officer was stabbed in an unprovoked attack as he investigated a car crash on Friday night.

Officers were responding to a call for a hit-and-run in the 600-block of N. Kentucky Avenue on at about 6:30 p.m. on June 22 when a man who was not involved in the crash approached them, WCAU reported.

Police said 32-year-old Timothy Deal stabbed one of the Atlantic City police officers in the torso with a knife, according to a statement released by the Office of the Atlantic County Prosecutor.

The prosecutor’s office said that their preliminary investigation showed the officer had fired his weapon at Deal, putting an end to the attack.

The wounded officer was transported to AtlantiCare Medical Center City Campus Trauma Center where he was treated and released, WCAU reported.

Deal was also transported to the trauma center where he was pronounced dead, according to the statement from the prosecutor’s office.

An autopsy was conducted on Deal early Saturday morning and preliminary results revealed that he had died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police called the attack on the officer, whose name has not been released, totally “unprovoked,” and said officers had just arrived at the scene of a construction van that had smashed into a utility pole when the incident occurred, WPVI reported.

The Atlantic County Major Crimes Unit was conducting the investigation without participation from the Atlantic City Police Department as is protocol for officer-involved shootings, the prosecutor’s office said.

No motive for the attack on the police officer was known, and authorities have asked anyone with information to contact 609 909 7800 or 609 909 7200 after hours.

Burgers all day, it’s possible that that is the case. But more information on Deal’s past is needed. He still could have acquired a gun but chose not.

Also you could say, the officer saved his own life by shooting a dangerous knife wielding suspect. Goes to show you, killing knife wielding suspects is a good idea. They’re dangerous.

None of what you are saying is relevant. The point is that officer Timothy Deal owes his life to NJ's gun control laws. I wonder if he realizes it. It would be cool if he did and speaks out. That would take a lot of courage, but he might just have it in him!

Burgers...what an asshat you are. I was a city cop for 25 years. Let me assure you that if you came after me with an edged weapon, I would make every possible effort to shoot you with the full intent to stop you...dead...in...your...tracks. DRT...dead right there. I've seen people gutted, scalped, stabbed seventy times, throats cut.

You clearly have no idea what a man with a knife is capable of doing to you.

You Idiot Asshat Troll.

@Burgers Allday Edged weapons can be worse than firearms, once your in close. Ever get into an armed encounter with someone inside an elevator or small room? I'd take the perp having a firearm over a knife any day. Practically anytime there's a knife involved someone's getting cut, unless someone else with a gun stops them. (Occasionally a Taser works) They never run out of "bullets", never malfunction or misfire, and the aim is usually dead on. Keep living in a dream world. You should move to London, I hear they'll machete you and run you over with a box truck there. I'm sure it's a more enjoyable way to die too.
