Atlantic City Officer Stabbed In 'Unprovoked Attack' At Car Wreck Scene

Authorities said that Timothy Deal attacked an Atlantic City police officer with a knife on Friday night.

Atlantic City, NJ – A police officer was stabbed in an unprovoked attack as he investigated a car crash on Friday night.

Officers were responding to a call for a hit-and-run in the 600-block of N. Kentucky Avenue on at about 6:30 p.m. on June 22 when a man who was not involved in the crash approached them, WCAU reported.

Police said 32-year-old Timothy Deal stabbed one of the Atlantic City police officers in the torso with a knife, according to a statement released by the Office of the Atlantic County Prosecutor.

The prosecutor’s office said that their preliminary investigation showed the officer had fired his weapon at Deal, putting an end to the attack.

The wounded officer was transported to AtlantiCare Medical Center City Campus Trauma Center where he was treated and released, WCAU reported.

Deal was also transported to the trauma center where he was pronounced dead, according to the statement from the prosecutor’s office.

An autopsy was conducted on Deal early Saturday morning and preliminary results revealed that he had died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police called the attack on the officer, whose name has not been released, totally “unprovoked,” and said officers had just arrived at the scene of a construction van that had smashed into a utility pole when the incident occurred, WPVI reported.

The Atlantic County Major Crimes Unit was conducting the investigation without participation from the Atlantic City Police Department as is protocol for officer-involved shootings, the prosecutor’s office said.

No motive for the attack on the police officer was known, and authorities have asked anyone with information to contact 609 909 7800 or 609 909 7200 after hours.

People are crazy. When did all these attacks on police officers start to become an every day event? If we can go back to when all this hatred for police began, we can identify the problem.........

I have great respect for all of our police forces.I believe the local officers are the foundation of a law abiding country.Looking at the corruption in the FBI just says that the local officers are more in touch with the people than the big agencies that are controlled by Washington where corruption exists all over.Yes a local police officer can fail and make mistakes, but it usually results in discipline not a need for a congressional hearing.

This is how terrorism starts also a civil war. If you want a life like Mexico, South America and the Middle East, then continue this way of life. My question if this type of life style is what you want. Then where would the Immigrants go for safety

@Burgers Allday Edged weapons can be worse than firearms, once your in close. Ever get into an armed encounter with someone inside an elevator or small room? I'd take the perp having a firearm over a knife any day. Practically anytime there's a knife involved someone's getting cut, unless someone else with a gun stops them. (Occasionally a Taser works) They never run out of "bullets", never malfunction or misfire, and the aim is usually dead on. Keep living in a dream world. You should move to London, I hear they'll machete you and run you over with a box truck there. I'm sure it's a more enjoyable way to die too.

Burgers...what an asshat you are. I was a city cop for 25 years. Let me assure you that if you came after me with an edged weapon, I would make every possible effort to shoot you with the full intent to stop you...dead...in...your...tracks. DRT...dead right there. I've seen people gutted, scalped, stabbed seventy times, throats cut.

You clearly have no idea what a man with a knife is capable of doing to you.

You Idiot Asshat Troll.

None of what you are saying is relevant. The point is that officer Timothy Deal owes his life to NJ's gun control laws. I wonder if he realizes it. It would be cool if he did and speaks out. That would take a lot of courage, but he might just have it in him!

@Burgers Allday here is all you need to know about your gun control wishes Burgers....

I have a video to counter anything you got to throw at me. Ben really makes it simple.

@Thinblueline you're being emotional, THICKblueline. he's correct. the cop could have been shot and killed. he was stabbed and lived.

Burgers all day, it’s possible that that is the case. But more information on Deal’s past is needed. He still could have acquired a gun but chose not.

Also you could say, the officer saved his own life by shooting a dangerous knife wielding suspect. Goes to show you, killing knife wielding suspects is a good idea. They’re dangerous.

@Hi_estComnDenomn, You sound disappointed. If it was a brother, stabbed by a Police Officer defending himself, you would be screaming your head off. All things being equal. Well, you would be.

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@SoberProgressive Why are you bringing up race? By your own made-up definition, that makes you a racist.

Heezels

I agree with Hi_estComnDenomn in this point. A scumbag of any race is still a scumbag. I’d actually like to move this conversation away from race and toward single parent households and how we’re raising increasingly incompetent adults. I think that’s the most contributing factor to crime.

realDonaldTrump

@Hi_estComnDenomn once again a false argument. Sometimes people live after being shot retard. Sometimes people die after being stabbed. If you think a knife's safer it is only because you never had to deal with someone trying to stab you with one. I have.

@Heezels good point Heezels, by the Hamburglar's logic maybe the officer should carry only a knife, and could have had a knife fight instead. Him and Common Anonimator think no one (except criminals) should have guns, want all guns banned. Everyone start carrying swords and machetes.

realDonaldTrump
realDonaldTrump

@Heezels exactly the issue in this country, but media is too chicken to touch that subject, don't wanna be called a racist for speaking the truth - Al Sharpton is the biggest racist in the country yet the main stream media is always eager to stick a cameraman and mic in his face. One side ALWAYS makes it about race. Otherwise we would not have any issues. Systematic racism is loooong gone. And has been proven many times to be gone. Some keep living in the past and never succeed in life, keep taking them handouts. The ones that break away and open their eyes are usually very successful. I for one love to see someone of another race successful, it proves the left is wrong.

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@realDonaldTrump If it's been proven that systematic racism is long gone, it should be easy to show proof, right?

realDonaldTrump
realDonaldTrump

@Hi_estComnDenomn The proof needs to be provided by the accusers. That should be easy right?

Hi_estComnDenomn
Hi_estComnDenomn

@realDonaldTrump so by your own statement, the accuser should show proof. So how is you saying "it's proven" worth anything, since you're not the accuser?
