Macon, GA – A former Major League Baseball pitcher caught the mail thieves plaguing his Rivoli Downs neighborhood, and held them at gunpoint until police arrived.
Police said that Kevin Brown, who played for the Rangers, Orioles, Marlins, Padres, Dodgers, and Yankees before he retired, conducted a stake out from his neighbor’s yard on Wednesday, after two men in a 2017 white Ford Mustang had stolen his mail two days in a row.
The thefts were captured on video by Brown’s home security system, The Macon Telegraph reported.
When the thieves returned to pick up Brown’s mail on June 13, the former baseball player was ready and waiting for them.
Police arrested 30-year-old Jeremy Brown Jr. and his 15-year-old brother in front of the baseball player’s multi-million dollar mansion, the Miami Herald reported. Jeremy Brown and his brother are not related to their victim with the same name.
Police said they discovered the brothers had more than $3,000 in cash and more than $16,000 in checks belonging to other people, the Macon Telegraph reported.
The brothers were each charged with three counts of theft by taking and one count of forgery, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. Jeremy Brown was also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
He was released June 14 on a $4,450 bond. The 15-year-old was turned over to family services until a family member could be contacted, according to the sheriff’s office.
Brown earned $130.9 million over his 17-year career. He finished with a career record of 211-144 that included six major league teams.
He was a six-time all-star, and went 21-11 in 1992, the only year he won 20 games or more.
Brown pitched in two World Series, with the 1997 Florida Marlins and the 1998 San Diego Padres.
