Alex Jones Arrested For DWI
Austin, TX – Radio talk show host Alex Jones was arrested for driving while intoxicated just after midnight on Tuesday.
The police report said the incident occurred after a woman who identified herself as Jones’ wife called 911 at about 10:10 p.m. on March 9, the Austin American-Statesman reported.
Jones’ wife told the dispatcher that the couple had a verbal argument and claimed that Jones had been physical earlier in the day.
The police report said his wife also told the dispatcher that Jones may have been drinking before he left the house in a black Dodge Charger, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
A deputy spotted a black Dodge Charger while on his way to the Jones’ residence.
The Dodge Charger was going 45 mph in a 40 mph zone, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
The deputy pulled over the vehicle and talked to Jones.
The police report said that deputy smelled a strong odor of alcohol, the Austin American-Statesman reported.
Jones told the deputy that he and his wife got into an argument while eating sushi together at a restaurant at about 8 p.m.
The police report said Jones admitted he had drunk a bottle of sake during dinner.
He told deputies he walked three miles home to his residence after dinner, but he and his wife continued the argument at his house, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
“Jones stated he then proceeded to drive to another residence he owns downtown to get away from his wife,” the police report said.
The police report said the deputy conducted a field sobriety test on Jones and the driver swayed and lost his balance, TMZ reported.
But Jones, 46, took two Intoxilyzer tests and both came back just under the legal limit of .08.
He blew a .076 at 11:55 p.m. and .079 at 11:59 p.m., the Austin American-Statesman reported.
The state law says that somebody is DWI if they are driving while impaired or above a .08 BAC, making it common for people to be arrested for DWI if they are below a .08 but show evidence of impairment.
The Travis County Sheriff’s Office said that Jones, who runs the InfoWars website, was booked into the Travis County Jail at 12:37 a.m. on March 3 on charges of misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.
Jones’ bail was set at $3,000 and he was released at 4:11 a.m., according to the Austin American-Statesman.
TMZ reported that Jones’ has been divorced since 2015 so it was unclear who the woman was that identified herself to police as his wife.
