9-Year-Old Boy Brings Gun To School, Points It At Bullies

A 9-year-old boy was arrested after he brought a loaded gun to school and pointed it at three of his classmates.

Lauderhill, FL – An elementary school student was arrested on Tuesday after he brought a loaded gun to his Broward County school, and pointed it at classmates.

“The investigation revealed that a 9-year-old student from Lauderhill Paul Turner brought a loaded .380 caliber Ruger handgun to school and aimed it at three classmates…” police said written statement, according to the Miami Herald.

The incident began at about 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 2 at Lauderhill Paul Turner Elementary School when the child pulled out the gun and began threatening three other students with it.

“You see this, this is a real gun,” the child said, according to police.

The nine year old also made other threats and remarks that indicated he believed he was being bullied by the three children at whom he was pointing his weapon.

Police said the school resource officer stepped in quickly, and was able to disarm the little boy and take him into custody.

"They disarmed the child without any incident, and the school was rendered safe as soon as the child was disarmed," Lauderhill Police Spokeswoman Yvette Marquez-Perkins said at a press conference, according to WPLG.

WPLG reported that the school was never evacuated and that it only took the school resource officer about two minutes to diffuse the situation.

Officials said they thought the little boy only intended to shoot those three specific students.

“The juvenile’s parents were visibly upset and denied the juvenile having a history of mental illness,” police said in their statement, the Miami Herald reported.

It was not yet known how the child obtained the loaded handgun.

He was taken to the Broward County Juvenile Assessment Center and faces three counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm on school property, WPLG reported.

Broward County Schools said the principal sent a letter home with students explaining what had happened and commending the student who had come forward with information about the student having a gun, according to the Miami Herald.

When will the parents start becoming accountable?

Charged with three counts of anything? he's a 9 year old little boy. Parents and school are all at fault for this. Parents for leaving weapon out where he could get it and school for not paying attention to the prevalent acts of bullying. All should be held accountable for their part in this little boy's desperate act.

What a desperate act by this little boy. He and the three he pointed the gun at need to have help to resolve what happened. PARENTS, teach your children to respect everyone. They may not look the same, some may have physical issues that make others make fun of. We need to have child heroes in school to stand up to the bullies but the kids, the parents need to step up and parent their kids, I find this heartbreaking that this little guy felt he had to bring a gun to school to confront his bullying classmates. Thoughts and prayers to him and his family.

So many mistakes made. So many adults with their heads buried up their rumps. If the child was being bullied at school by one or 3 or dozens makes no difference. If he told school authorities, teacher..etc..etc.. they failed him by not doing anything to protect him nor stopping the bullies. Parents of the 9 year old.. where did your child get a loaded gun to carry to school to threaten other children? Do you always leave a loaded gun around? If the child got the gun somewhere else, then where? Does the child have a history of aggressive behavior? Or had he reached his limits and saw no other way to stop the bullies? I would call this a cry for help from a 9 year old who could not depend on adults to do the responsible thing and protect him, yet to grab a gun and carry it to school, take it out and threaten others with it cannot be taken lightly.

Christ this is just an elementary school and there's a need for a school resource officer.
