7-Year-Old Boy Called 'Little Hitler' For Raising Money To Fund Border Wall
Austin, TX – A seven-year-old Texas boy was called “little Hitler” he was selling hot cocoa to help pay for President Donald Trump’s border wall.
Benton Stevens, 7, raised $1,400 in two days at a strip mall where he set up his stand, according to KEYE.
"Some people were mad and calling me a 'little Hitler' and stuff, and some people were really happy," Benton said, according to KEYE.
Shane Stevens, Benton’s father, said he wants his son to learn from the experience.
"If he's going to do it, he needs to learn that there's going to be a little backlash," the father said. "But I just wish (the critics) would do it in a little more respectful, adult-like manner."
Benton said he wanted to raise the money and then mail it to the White House and President Trump or even go to Washington, D.C. and hand the money over to President Trump in person. Benton said he raised the money "so that the illegal immigrants can't get into our town illegally,” according to KEYE.
Jennifer Stevens, Benton’s mother, said the news coverage they watch as conservatives and the dinner conversation has rubbed off on their son.
“People think he’s brainwashed,” she said, according to KXAN. “Well, of course, he supports Trump because we do, and he hears how we talk and this and that. Call that brainwashing, but I call it parenting, because we instill our values in him.”
This wasn’t the first time Benton was harassed for supporting President Trump, the family said.
Shane and Jennifer are members of the Republican National Convention. The family attended President Trump’s inauguration. Benton said three women in pink hats made fun of his Make American Great Again hat he was wearing.
Jennifer said they don’t encourage their son to be political and that Benton was the one who wanted to do the fund-raising.
"They should be kids," said Jennifer, according to KEYE. "I just happen to have very mature seven-year-old who wants to be involved in this. That's what he wants to do. I have a 10-year-old who doesn't."
