5 Citizens Killed By Mass Shooter, 5 Cops Shot While Running In To Take Him Out

Five police officers have been shot and five citizens have been killed.

Aurora, IL - Five police officers were shot Friday while responding to an active shooter where a gunman fatally shot five people.

The incident happened at around 1:24 p.m. when Gary Martin, 45, opened fire on factory workers at the Henry Pratt Company, according to ABC News.

Martin was reportedly a worker at the company.

Five workers were fatally shot, and an undisclosed number were wounded. The first responding officers ran into the gunfight, and five of the officers were shot.

Officers were able to kill Martin in the gunfight.

The motive for the shooting has not been released at this time. However, ABC7 reports that Martin was being fired from the company after 15 years of working there, and that he pulled his gun at his termination meeting.

All five officers are reported to be in stable condition, although two needed to be airlifted out due to the severity of their injuries.

Factory worker John Probst said that Martin was shooting people with a pistol equipped with a laser, according to ABC News.

Martin is a convicted felon for aggravated assault, according to ABC7.

Aurora Police Chief Kristen Ziman thanked the officers during the press conference. "Thank you for running towards gunfire and putting your lives in danger to protect those inside the business," she said.

President Trump took to Twitter to offer his thanks to law enforcement. Senators also thanked first responders and called for action against "gun violence."

You cant stop gun violence. There are enough people who are crazy enough to kill. You cant stop them. Look at the sex and violence on TV. Or the movies. The games that are played on video games. The left has done this to our people

The article says that the shooter was a convicted felon. It is illegal for convicted felons to possess firearms. So much for gun control laws. Criminals don't respect the law because, they are criminals. All gun control does, is make it harder for law abiding people to protect themselves.

gun control will not stop this violence, when are the politicians going to learn?

Who sold him the weapon and has he been arrested yet?

A convicted felon isn't supposed to seek, buy, steal or own a gun so the guy who sold the gun must be the one at fault. Don't hold the felon liable.

I am so outraged right now came accross this story on the Today show. 15 minutes ago and this male commentator says "well for once the police did something right"!!!!! There has to be some backlash on that, I am shocked but not!! Sad, sad, sad

Democrats rarely miss an opportunity to make gun violence the subject of their narrative. Kamala Harris didn't disappoint. (Although, she is a disappointment.) Thankfully, most politicians recognized that the issue in this case was that a mentally unstable employee, not the gun that he had. As a convicted felon, perhaps he shouldn't have had one in the first place. I congratulate the president for acknowledging the bravery of the officers that ran towards the gunfire. Kudos to the members of Aurora PD for their courage. He also offered condolences to those killed and wounded and their families.

Hmmm, we condemn guns while in the same sentence applaud those brave first responders who stopped the killer, by shooting him. Seems like guns were used for both good and bad, so maybe it isn't a gun issue at all.

"We The People" aren't the ones who need "gun control". What we need is enforcement of existing laws. The man was a convicted felon. He shouldn't have had a gun in the first place! --But, laws or no laws, he had one anyway. He did the killing. Felons who want guns will always find a way to get them!

Shooter was issued an Illinois FOID in error. The blood of the dead and maimed are on the hands of the apparatchiks in Springfield. I strongly suspect NO ONE in government will be held accountable for this.

Wow....guns are an object and cannot kill on their own and it is interesting how they are blamed and not the individual that is responsible....He was a felon and our laws did not stop him....but of course we need more laws....maybe the gun was stolen so maybe the person he stole the gun from is responsible.....SHEEEEESH! I guess we need laws for this and laws to stop knives from being made and used as weapons....as the knife is at fault for lots of deaths!!!!!!

For those who do not know the whole story about the shooter & how he came to have a gun. Illinois done a background check, he was given a FOID card which was then revoked but not before he purchased a gun which was not confiscated after the card was revoked. If Illinois would do more extensive searches in data bases for criminals he would not have had the FOID card. IE; fingerprint & FBI background check which is how I obtained mine in NC. I came home & received my FOID card via the same way. My daughter informed me they are no longer doing fingerprint or FBI checks!
