3-Year-Old Girl Mauled To Death By Family's New Dog

A three year old was killed by her family's new pet dog in Oklahoma on Sunday.

Duncan, OK – A three-year-old girl was mauled to death by her family’s new pet dog on Sunday.

Justin Dodge said he’d only left his house for a few moments on Jan. 14 to go see his brother when his mother called him and told him their new dog had attacked his daughter Rylee.

“And, when I came in the house, my mom was laying on the dog and she was just all bloody. I mean she was trying her best to get the dog off my daughter. My daughter was just there laying on the bed, just limp,” Dodge told KFOR. “My mom was right there when it happened. There is literally blood all through the house. And, that’s why I didn’t even come back last night because it’s so bad.”

Dodge said he’d only gotten the dog five days before his three year old was killed.

He said he took his son with him when he went to get the dog to see how the animal responded to children, and everything went well.

Dodge said his children had been playing with the dog without incident for several days, but on Sunday, something went terribly wrong.

Rylee opened the front door to go play with the dog in the fenced front yard, and the pit bull immediately attacked the toddler.

Dodge’s mother tried to intervene, but the dog proved to be too strong.

She called for help and then used all her strength holding the dog down until her son arrived.

His mother actually pulled her arm out of the socket trying to pull the dog off her granddaughter, he said. She was treated at the hospital later for her injuries.

When Dodge arrived home, he found his mother still struggling with the dog.

Dodge tried to take Rylee to the hospital, but the ambulance arrived as he was leaving, and paramedics immediately began CPR on the three year old. The little girl was pronounced dead at the hospital.

“She was just so chewed up, I mean there’s just no coming back from that. The doctors did everything they could. They tried to give her blood and everything, and she’d just passed. There’s nothing they could do, absolutely nothing,” Dodge told KFOR.

Police shot and killed the dog in the backyard at the request of Rylee’s devastated father.

The dog was a mix of pit bull and bulldog, People reported.

As an ACO and proffesional that deals with Dangerous and vicious dogs every day. I can tell you that it has to do more with the raising and nurturing of the dog. At the end of the day dogs are animals. They percieve threats and act. Know who you are getting the dog from. And if you have children. Get a puppy and let your children be imprinted on that dog from the start. I have witnessed far to many of these. The stats are correct. But they are by far the most visious breed. They do the most damage due to the strength and size of the dog.

Pitbulls are only at that high percentage of incidents because of the type of people they are sought after by. My sister has a great one and also has kids, as do I. Mine is best friends with my basset hound and cat as well. People who make negative comments about pitbulls have never had them and have never been around them enough to make judgement, but these are the people giving them a bad name because they are ignorant and it doesn't affect them.

I don't mean they should be killed, just not bread and let them go extinct. They are not worth the risk. Like playing with a loaded gun. Anyone who has these dogs around children is rolling the dice. The stats show it.

And I have been around Pits and have seen what they can do. It was also a nice friendly dog.....until it wasn't.

The stats show that ghetto people shouldn't own dogs, not that this breed needs not exist. Your opinion is part of whats turning people on what could (and should) be considered one of the top 5 to have.

Many pit bull owners say, "My pitbull is like my baby and is good with my family" until it eats one of them. I've dealt with many families like this and realise people will never learn. Perhaps start charging patents with homicide will stop this.

6% of the dog population and 71% of the fatal dog attacks in the US. That says it all. The breed should be illegal. Could you imagine the death toll if Pits were in the top 5 breeds? Wow, it would be horrific.

I'm going to have to agree with Bigyoda20 on this one and just say that you sir, are an idiot. Apparently you don't understand the part about the owners being shitty. The dogs with the worst temperament is as follows... Starting with most aggressive:
1.
Chihuahua
2.
Dachshund
3.
Chow Chow
4.
Doberman Pinscher
5.
Dalmatian
6.
Rottweiler
7.
Jack Russell Terrier
8.
German Shepherd
9.
American Staffordshire/ Pit Bull Terrier
10.
Siberian Husky

Nobody's on here protesting dalmatians... As EVERYONE with a sense of brain will tell you, It's not the dog. It's the owner. Sickandtired, please stfu.

I have owned Pits and never had one be aggressive with anyone. I raised them from the time they were weaned. I knew them, their temperment and still I would not leave them alone with a child or someone they didn't know well but I wouldn't do that with ANY Breed or even a Cat for that matter. I won't go and get a full grown dog of any breed and bring home to be around my Grandkids or my Elder Father because I don't know how the dog was raise or what hell it had been through in its lifetime. Abused Animals have Triggers, just like Abused Humans but we can verbalize and they can't.

You have the Husky as a dangerous breed??? LMFAO, now there is a special kinda stupid. The story even specifically said they got the dog from a shelter. God knows what hell that dog went through before it ended up with that family.

Pit Bull lovers can keep on keeping on and I'll just shake my head in wonder every time one eats one of them. I can't remember when I have read or heard a story about any other breed trying to kill someone. I now it happens occasionally but pitbulls are in the news almost weekly. There's a reason people use the dogs for fighting...

Sombody has thir pantis in a bunch. The stats say it all. A Rottweiler or Doberman are just as capable of killing a person, but they have no where near the kills a Pit has. Then you bring Chihuahua's in the mix. Are you really that stupid? You stfu.

"Worst temperament" according to what study? Are we talking people's opinions? Is there research? I know the numbers of people killed are a firm statistic. Where did you get the " worst temperament" list? Keep in mind, temperament is only part of the picture. That + the power to follow through on that anger is what makes a pitbull dangerous. Chows are pretty mean, to be certain, you don't hear about them killing people all he time. Are some abused, trained, or otherwise the fault of an owner? Of course! But where there is smoke there is fire. I had an English Bull that would simply look dejectedly at a toddler at they pulled food from his mouth. Breed does matter.

So sad that people blame this breed! You people just don't "get it", and never will...NO DOG is BORN to be vicious or to KILL. Its a simple matter of how the dog is raised, his/her environment, SOCIALIZATION....etc. ALL PITS are NOT raised to fight. ANY dog can become or "learn" to be aggressive, even the ankle biters. NO ONE should adopt ANY dog beyond puppy stage from a shelter or anyplace else and bring it home and LEAVE it with ANY kid, not even for a minute. No I am not a Pit iwner, I happen to have a 12 year old lab that we rescued at 6 months old, HOWEVER, I have been around Pits and have family members and friends WITH kids that do have Pits....funny thing that back in the 80's it was the Rottie being picked as the "killer" breed, before that it was the German Shepherd and Dobermans.....people need to research before they think they know everything about a breed or a DOG for that matter. There are Pits that I would rather have my grandchildren around as opposed to some of the ankle biters I have come across over the years. It's all in the way they are raised!

Being a pit bull owner, I pay attention to where the other pit bulls are in my town. It would not surprise me if pit bulls are actually the most common breed in my town (population of about 3500). We have no dog bite fatalities. Anybody who wants to ride on the anti-pit bull bandwagon should go and find themselves a gun control group so that they can enjoy the company of other self-righteous ignoramuses.

As a volunteer for a local animal shelter.I am a senior, and seldom take any dog out alone if I can help it.I deal with the so called pit mixes and full breeds.

I never show fear, but if one does show aggression I leave them for the staff.
As for the child this should never of happened.I do put blame on not monitoring the dog at all times.Pits or any breed can and will show aggression after being in a shelter for a period of time.It is a hell hole to them.SO being adopted and after the time spent he should of had time to adjust to the child as well to the adults.Just my thts,no blame to anyone just sadness for the family.

Sickandtired is absolutely correct. People fail to look at the intended purpose for which a dog was bred in the first place. Pit Bulls were bred to take down bears or bulls by their head. When this was outlawed, ppl started fighting them. There is no question that they were bred specifically to attack. And they do. Most of the time it is someone in their home and not always a child, either. Go to the website Sickandtired mentioned and u will see the countless stories of those killed. You can not argue with facts. They are responsible for roughly 70% of all FATALITIES. We are not talking bites here. We are talking FATALITIES. There is no training the attack drive out of them when it was bred IN them. I love dogs but this breed is absolutely worthless.

No matter what you do, the genetics of these types of dogs will always command its behavior. Pit Bull type dogs were created for the sole purpose of blood sports. I feel sad for the death of this child and her families suffering. I feel anger toward the greedy uneducated person or organization that duped them into getting this dog. Genetics is everything in a dog.
