16-Year-Old Soccer Player Shot After Standing Up For Smaller Kid Being Bullied

Samuel Reynolds was fatally shot by a 15-year-old boy whom he had stopped from bullying a smaller student.

Arlington, TX – A 16-year-old boy was murdered on Thursday after he intervened to help a smaller boy who was being bullied.

A few days before he was fatally shot, Samuel Reynolds told his parents that he had broken up a fight when a larger boy was picking on a “smaller boy” at Arlington High School, NBC News reported.

“After he broke up the fight, he started having trouble with the suspect,” Arlington Police Lieutenant Christopher Cook said.

The shooting occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 6 in Pinewoods Apartments, the apartment complex where both boys lived, according to the NBC News.

Reynolds was walking between two buildings inside the complex when suspect approached him, KTVT reported.

Police responded to the scene and found Reynold suffering from a gunshot wound.

The 16 year old was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to NBC News.

Police have arrested the 15-year-old suspect who fatally shot Reynolds.

The suspect initially denied any knowledge of the shooting, but the entire incident was captured on the apartment complex’s security cameras, NBC News reported.

“He pulls out a handgun from the rear part of his pants he was wearing, points it at the victim and fires one round,” Lt. Cook said. “We did recover one spent shell casing. It’s a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun.”

The suspect was arrested and taken to a juvenile detention facility, NBC News reported.

The teen was facing murder charges but whether he will be charged as an adult remained to be determined.

Arlington High School Principal Shahveer Dhalla put out a statement on Friday that said that school’s ROTC students had lowered the flag to half-staff in tribute to the murdered 10th grade soccer player.

“We are heartbroken by this tragic loss of a young life,” Dhalla said. “He touched the lives of many of our Arlington students and teachers, and he will be missed. We are keeping our thoughts and prayers with Sam’s family and friends.”

The principal also said that the teen who shot Reynolds was not a student at Arlington High School.

Police are focused on figuring out how the 15-year-old who shot Reynolds came into possession of a gun.

“This senseless act of gun violence has no place in society and our hometown community. This was an emotionally tough case for responding officers, investigators and medics,” Arlington Police Chief Will Johnson said in a statement. “We will direct our attention to how a young teen suspect accessed a firearm used in the offense.”

Authorities have said they will prosecute whoever was responsible for giving the 15-year-old killer access to the gun, KTVT reported.

“That’s something we want an answer for,” Arlington Police Officer Christopher Cook said. “We are sick and tired of children in our community coming in contact with firearms and possessing them and using them.”

They always wanna call these things "tragedies". It's not. It was a savage murder. And not an act of gun violence. An act of human violence.

First, when I saw the title I suspected it would be Florida or Texas.

Next, the teen likely got the gun where most people his age get guns: from a relative's unsecured storage location, or it was stolen, or it was borrowed from another teen who got it in one of the previous ways mentioned.

I've been a gun owner for reasons of personal self-defense for 32 years and I've never had a gun stolen BECAUSE I take a lot of responsibility in locking the guns up when they are not on my person.

Give me just 1 hour with that bastard, and I guarantee he will never bully or harm anyone or anything else for the remainder of his life!

Wow........another case of stellar parenting. Someone makes you mad so you kill them. I hope this thug is charged as an adult for premeditated murder. Sue the parents also. Sick of hearing this kind of thing. My thoughts and prayers for the Reynolds family. They raised their Son right, the killers didn't....

Premeditated first degree murder. 15 or not charge this scumbag as an adult and let his peers decide.

He should be charged as an adult, it was a planned execution and I don't care what liberal nuts say that a teens brain isn't fully developed and have no control over what they do. I call BS. This kid was furious he was forced to stop bullying the kid and he decided to get even. If he is charged as a juvie he will be on the streets in 6 yrs. No he needs prison and long enough for him to get old.

Charge ALL killers as adults. And, charge whomever owns the weapon used as an accessory to murder. This is the only way to handle this idiocy.

“Common sense gun control laws” would have been so helpful in this situation. NOT

Typical liberal leftist "School Officials" focused ONLY on the source of the tool used to commit the crime, and not the broken family or segment of society that fostered, grew, and enabled this little monster to be set free on the rest of the world ! ! !
It is NOT the tool, it is what enabled the THINKING of a 15 yo that this was an acceptable action in his world ! ! ! !

He did it. If you’re going to commit a crime you have to suffer the consequences! Life without parole. If might stop others from doing the same. Do the crime n do the time no if ands or buts!

"The teen was facing murder charges but whether he will be charged as an adult remained to be determined."

This should be a no-brainer. If he is willing to go down that path as a juvenile, then imagine the horrors he could inflict as an adult. He lacks pure sympathy and empathy for the feelings of others, and has no self control when it comes to his own actions. These are traits, we as parents, should have instilled in our children very early on in life. At the age of 16, he is too old to learn them. He needs to be charged and tried as an adult.

As for the individual who may have voluntarily or involuntarily made available the firearm used in this case, they should be charged. A responsible gun owner will make sure their firearms are secure. There is no excuse for a 16yo to obtain a firearm without full parental permission and guidance, ie taking their child to a shooting range.

I remember when we use to have the 'after school fights' as kids. Never had to worry about someone pulling any weapons. We fought with our hands. These punks just pull a trigger, end a life, and end their own. That little bitch is going to get ass raped in prison. He will regret it believe me, I worked in a juvenile penitentiary.

Charge him as an adult!! The POS needs to go away for a long time. As far as I know, there is still justice in Texas unlike here in the Democratic northeast.

Point taken. Certainly it's a tragedy for his family and friends.

Put that fucking coward on trial as an adult. Better yet, he doesn't deserve a trial. Take him behind the woodshed, put a bullet in his head and rid society of his bully ass, because there's a 95% chance that this won't be his last encounter with an innocent victim.

73 years ago I was being bullied/beaten on a street corner. An older boy that I did not know stepped in and saved my skinny butt. I never have forgotten his name since that day. He was, unfortunately killed as one of the first casualties of the action in S. Vietnam. A hero then, a hero later, and a hero to me to this day. I should mention that my "crime" was to be a wearer of prescription glasses. In those days, I was pretty much alone in that class.

I have had some that stood up for me when I was bullied and have stood up for myself later in high school as needed without getting suspended with the use of the wrestling elective. Anyways, all I can say is that if you play adult games, you win adult prizes!
