Hero Down: Statesboro Officer Ian Huggins Killed In Murder-Suicide

StatesboroPolice Officer Ian Huggins was fatally shot early Easter morning.

Statesboro, GA – Statesboro Police Department (SPD) Advanced Patrol Officer Ian Huggins died of multiple gunshot wounds on Sunday morning, after he was repeatedly shot by his wife, police said.

“It is with extreme sorrow and grief that the Statesboro Police Department must announce the sudden off-duty death of Advanced Patrol Officer Ian Huggins, in what appears to be a murder-suicide,” the SPD said in an afternoon press release.

Police responded to the Copper Beech Townhomes at approximately 2:36 a.m. Easter morning, after they received a report of possible shots fired.

They arrived to find Officer Huggins with “multiple gunshot wounds,” the department said.

“Moments after officers entered the home, Rebecca Boyett Huggins, his wife, took her own life with one gunshot to the head,” the SPD said.

Police and emergency medical personnel attempted to revive the couple before transporting them to the East Georgia Regional Medical Center, but neither survived.

The motive for the shooting was unclear, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is handling the case, the SPD said.

Officer Huggins and Rebecca had been married since Feb. 14.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Statesboro Police Department Advanced Patrol Officer Ian Huggins, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.

She has a right to be heard just as everyone does. None of us know what was going on behind closed doors and if what she is saying is true then it is very sad. I mean 5 marriages is a lot and for all of them to fail there is something off there. No one deserves to lose their life but there are more sides to this story than anyone knows.

Who cares how many marriages this man had. That is not a sign of anything other than he may have been picking the wrong type. If This Peggy is any indication he unfortunately must have been drawn to vindictive and unbalanced women. You were correct in that he did not deserve to lose his life. If a person is not happy in a marriage just walk away. There is no excuse for this kind of thing to happen period. Just freakin pack your crap and leave. The man lost his life. Just because some lady who is obviously still bitter posts stuff to make the man look bad and to obviously hurt the mans family does not make what she says true. She strikes me as an opportunist who threw stuff out there to make him look bad as a last dig at a man who can no longer stand up for himself. Some people marry the right person the first time and some go through several before they find the right one. Judging someone as a bad person based on how many marriages they have had is a little harsh.

He made himself look bad. In no way is 5 marriages indicative of normal behavior.

Eh, maybe. But everyone has some sort of trouble or issue. But saying the guy deserves to die because he had five marriages is really far out there.

@Heezels
I always know when you start your reply with 'Eh,' you're about to credit me with some bullshit I never said.

In any of my comments, did I say he deserved to die? The worst I said is 5 failed marriages shows that he definitely wasn't a societal pillar.
