Hero Down: Shreveport Police Cpl. Troy 'TJ' Flores Succumbs To Cancer

Shreveport Police Corporal Troy "T.J." Flores served his department for 17 years.

Shreveport, LA – Shreveport Police Corporal Troy “TJ” Flores died on March 27, following a battle with cancer.

Cpl. Flores, 52, was diagnosed with high grade small cell carcinoma, which metastasized to his lymph nodes, bones, and spine, according to a fundraising page established to help him and his family.

Prior to his career in law enforcement, Cpl. Flores served eight in the U.S. Marine Corps, his obituary read.

He also began serving in the United States Army Reserve in 2004.

“TJ has spent more than 30 years serving his country as a soldier,” his fundraising page read.

Cpl. Flores joined the Shreveport Police Department in 2002, and spent the next 17 years serving and protecting his local community.

After many years in patrol, he spent the last seven years of his career as a motorcycle officer with the traffic unit, and also served as a motorcycle instructor.

Cpl. Flores was a member of the Iron Warriors motorcycle club, and enjoyed riding even in his off-time.

“After a long battle with cancer we lost a great man, officer and marine yesterday,” the Shreveport Police K-9 Unit said in a Facebook post. “RIP Cpl. TJ Flores. We've got it from here. You'll be missed. Our deepest condolences to friends and family of Cpl. Flores.”

He was hailed as an “outstanding member” of the force, his department said.

Cpl. Flores leaves behind his wife, Carmela, and their five children, Tanner, Brandon, Trace, Emily, and Morgan, according to his obituary.

He was laid to rest on March 30.
