Hero Down: Penobscot County Corrections Cpl. Chaz Gray Dies In Motorcycle Crash

Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Corporal Chaz Gray served his department for over a decade.

Bangor, ME – Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) Corrections Corporal Chaz Gray died in an off-duty motorcycle crash on Aug. 5.

The 31-year-old corrections corporal and his 29-year-old passenger, Adriane Mehuren, were riding his 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle at approximately 10 p.m., when they collided with a 2009 Honda Odyssey driven by 72-year-old Sylvalyn Tracy, the Bangor Daily News reported.

Corrections Cpl. Gray died at the scene.

Mehuren was rushed to Northern Light Eastern Main Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries on Aug. 6.

Neither of the motorcycle riders were wearing helmets, Bangor Police Lieutenant Brent Beaulieu told the Bangor Daily News.

The occupants inside the Odyssey were not injured in the collision.

The exact cause of the fatal crash remains under investigation.

Corrections Cpl. Gray was a ten-and-one-half-year veteran of the PCSO, Penobscot County Administrator Bill Collins told the paper.

In 2018, his colleagues chose him as Corrections Officer of the Year.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, coworkers and all impacted by this tragic crash,” Penobscot County Sheriff Troy Morton told the Bangor Daily News.

Corrections Cpl. Gray leaves behind his wife, Jessi, and their son, Riley, according to his obituary.

He is also survived by his mother, siblings, grandparents, and many friends and family members.

A fundraising campaign established to help establish an education fund for Riley has raised over $2,600.

Corrections Cpl. Gray will be laid to rest on Tuesday.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Corporal Chaz Gray, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.

Something is not right with this one. Not wearing a helpmeet is asking for trouble. I am gong to sit back and watch how the wife figures this one out.
