Hero Down: North Catasauqua Police Chief Kim Moyer Dies Unexpectedly

North Catasauqua Police Chief Kim Moyer served his department for over 45 years.

North Catasauqua, PA – North Catasauqua Police Chief Kim Moyer died unexpectedly on Saturday morning, according to his department.

Chief Moyer, 68, was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital - Muhlenberg earlier in the day, but attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful, The Morning Call reported.

The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office later determined that the longtime chief died of natural causes, according to WFMZ.

He served as the city’s police chief for nearly four decades, but had served the department for over 45 years, the North Catasauqua Police Department (NCPD) said in a Facebook post.

Chief Moyer also spent several years working as the director of the Borough Public Works Department.

“As a public servant for the citizens of North Catasauqua since 1974, he was a fixture in the community and leaves behind a lasting legacy that will not soon be forgotten,” the NCPD said.

The department described the beloved chief as “not just a boss,” but also as a “leader, a role model, a father figure, and most importantly a friend.”

“You have lived a life of valor, integrity, and dedication, values which all men and women should strive to attain,” the NCPD said. “You are the foundation on which our police department was built.”

Officers considered it an “honor and privilege” to work for him, and noted that Chief Moyer instilled his values in everyone he served with, the department’s post read.

“You have trained cadets and forged them into ranking officials and leaders who can be found in departments throughout the Commonwealth and beyond,” the NCPD said. “Rest now Chief, your final tour of duty is complete… we will strive to live in your honor and continue your great legacy. May you forever rest in peace.”

Chief Moyer leaves behind his wife, Veronica, and his two daughters, Jennifer and Megan, according to his obituary.

He is also survived by his siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
