Hero Down: Newark Police Officer Michael Conners Dies From Coronavirus

Newark Police Officer Michael Conners served his department for 26 years.

Newark, NJ – Newark Police Department (NPD) Officer Michael Conners died on April 30 after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

The 58-year-old officer succumbed to complications of the novel coronavirus after being admitted to the Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, TAPinto reported.

“Officer Conners was a pillar in the Newark Police Division,” Newark Police Chief Darnell Henry said in a statement to the Bergen Record. “He was known for his consistency as an insightful guardian of the community and as a reliable colleague.

Officer Conners joined the NPD in 1993, and spent the past five years assigned to the First Precinct.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Officer Conners,” Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose told TAPinto. “He was an integral part of our Police Division’s family. We all knew him as a dedicated public servant who served faithfully for 26 years. This painful passing is felt throughout our ranks.”

Officer Conners leaves behind his two daughters, two sons, and six grandchildren.

He was laid to rest on May 8, the Daily Voice reported.
