Nebraska State Patrol Lieutenant Craig Loveless served his department for 33 years.

Omaha, NE – Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) Lieutenant Craig Loveless died on March 27 following a lengthy cancer battle.

The 54-year-old lieutenant served the NSP in a wide variety of roles over the course of his 33-year career, KOLN reported.

NSP Superintendent Colonel John Bolduc said that Lt. Loveless “was universally admired throughout our State Patrol family,” according to KOLN.

“His bravery on our SWAT Teams, his expertise in training new troopers, and his leadership in the field have left a lasting impact on the State Patrol and all who worked alongside Craig,” Col. Bolduc said.

Lt. Loveless’ NSP career began in 1987, when he was hired to work in the Omaha Patrol Division, KOLN reported.

He transferred to the Investigative Services Unit in 1994, and spent many years as a member of the Metro Area Fugitive Task Force.

Lt. Loveless began working at the NSP Training Academy in Grand Island in 2005, and spent the next nine years training the state’s newest troopers, KOLN reported.

He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant of the Omaha Patrol Division in 2014, and remained in that position until his death.

In addition to his various duties, Lt. Loveless was a Special Operations Coordinator and also spent 20 years serving on the NSP’s SWAT Team.

“We’re all better for having worked with Craig,” Col. Bolduc told KOLN. “Without question, he’s made Nebraska a safer place through his service and the lasting effect he has had on our agency.”

Lt. Loveless leaves behind his fiancé, Diane, as well as his children, Kayleen, Cameron and Callen, according to his obituary.

He is also survived by his two grandchildren and his sister, Cindy.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Nebraska State Patrol Lieutenant Craig Loveless, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.
