Middlesex Sheriff's Office Correction Officer Christopher Acres served his department for over three decades.

Medford, MA – Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (MSO) Correction Officer Christopher “Chris” Acres died unexpectedly on Jan. 28.

The 52-year-old correction officer served the MSO for 31 years.

“It is with profound sadness that we regret to announce the sudden passing of Correction Officer Chris Acres,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post on Jan. 30. “He was a devoted colleague, friend and family member. We ask you to keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.”

Although Correction Officer Acres loved his job, he was also looking forward to his impending retirement after more than three decades of service, according to his obituary.

“Since the age of 15, Chris was first an Explorer, and then an officer for The Malden Emergency Center (MEC), a first responder center with a rescue unit. It was his second family and second life,” the tribute read. “Eventually he worked his way up to Captain and then President and Chief Officer of the MEC.”

Whether working as a correction officer or with the MEC, he devoted his life to serving others.

“[Correction Officer Acres] was an extraordinarily loving, giving, and kind person,” his obituary read. “He would have given you his last dime, the last shirt off his back, and been proud to have done so.”

Correction Officer Acres leaves behind his wife, Adrianne, as well as his sons, Christopher and John, and his stepdaughter, Kyriel.

He is also survived by his mother, Carol, and many friends and extended family members.

Correction Officer Acres will be laid to rest on Thursday.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Correction Officer Christopher “Chris” Acres, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.
