Hero Down: Mobile Officer Sean Tuder Murdered By Gunman

Officer Sean Tuder was killed while attempting to apprehend a wanted fugitive.

Mobile, AL - Mobile Policer Officer Sean Tuder was murdered in the line of duty while attempting to arrest a wanted fugitive Sunday afternoon.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. at the Peach Place Inn as officers were attempting to locate a wanted fugitive, according to AL.com.

19-year-old Marco Perez had numerous warrants for his arrest on undisclosed charges.

As officers were searching for Perez, Officer Tuder was fatally shot. Police would not confirm if Perez was the gunman, but he is in custody.

"We're trying to make sense of how we can have another brother lose his life in less than a year," Chief Lawrence Battiste said at a press conference.

Mobile Police Officer Justin Billa was murdered last year while attempting to apprehend a murder suspect.

Just months before, the department lost Sergeant Jeremy Franks in a collision.

The chief asked for patience while they investigate before they release the details of the shooting.

Officer Tuder was a 3-year veteran of the department, but had prior law enforcement experience.

Officer Tuder leaves behind his wife.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Mobile Police Department Officer Tuder, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Officer Sean Tuder, your life mattered.

“Trying to make sense “??!! Law enforcement are targets ever since the Obama presidency! The system is against the system by lighter jail sentences, mayors who worship crime etc etc. Cops have to go by rules that are set up by suits behind desks instead of cops going by their training experience and instincts.

These murders and attempted murders of police seem to be increasing. At the same time, city governments" are forming "oversight" boards consisting of anti-police activists that shine their "evil eyes" on cops who many times are doing their jobs. I think would be cops should choose another profession.

This 19 year old punk that shot and killed Officer Tuder, faked his own kidnapping just last week (with his mother's help) to avoid other numerous arrest warrants. Apparently, Officer Tuder had learned of the fake kidnapping and was there to carry out the arrest of the mother and son dueo when he was murdered in cold blood by this 19 year old POS. My deepest condolences go out to the wife and family of Officer Sean Tuder, the Mobile PD and the citizens lucky enough to have had the opportunity to meet such a fine young man. Rest in Peace Sir and Thank You for your Service to Our Community. 🇺🇸

Wonder if the shooter was another illegal alien that was never turned over to ICE?

Deepest condolences to Officer Tuders family and brother and sister cops.

To all on patrol. Do not feel you may look bad on video by being aggresive in perp search and afraid to firmly control the situation. Moment you drop your guard bad shit happens.

Perez came into the courtroom wearing the fallen hero’s handcuffs engraved with the name “Tuder.” — a tribute NBC 15 showed you exclusively last week.

Monday, Perez’s attorney raised the issue during the hearing.

“We are only preserving the record for how it may impact my client legally,” attorney Dennis Knizley said.

“We had nothing to do with the choice of handcuffs that Marco Perez was brought over in,” Mobile County District Attorney Ashley Rich said, adding “That is completely the jail’s decision. That’s a decision they made.”

The defense also made a request to have these cuffs switched out in the future.

“It’s quite unusual, it’s not necessary,” Knizley said, adding “Let’s just treat everyone like you would anyone else accused of an offense.”

At the request of Perez’s attorney, Mobile County Sheriff’s Office tells NBC 15 they are returning the engraved handcuffs to the Mobile Police Department. Perez will be cuffed with regular hand cuffs moving forward.
