Hero Down: Little Rock PD Officer Marc Collins Dies From Undisclosed Illness

Little Rock Police Officer Marc Collins served his department for 25 years.

Little Rock, AR – Little Rock Police Department (LRPD) Officer Marc Collins died on Oct. 16 after battling an undisclosed illness for several months, according to his department.

“Our LRPD family is sadden[ed] by the loss of Officer Marc Collins,” the agency said in a Facebook post. “Please keep his family and our LRPD Family in your prayers.”

Officer Collins, a U.S. Navy veteran, served LRPD for 25 years, according to his obituary.

The 54-year-old officer discussed his law enforcement career in a “Behind the Badge” segment in March of 2016.

“I’m born and raised right here in the City of Little Rock, and it is my pleasure every day to serve the citizens of my community, right here in my town,” Officer Collins said in the video.

He noted that other members of his family also served as law enforcement officers.

“I guess you might say it’s in the blood for me,” he laughed.

Officer Collins said he previously worked for other law enforcement agencies, both while serving in the military, and while he was living in Nevada.

“I am concerned like everybody is with the relations that we have between our citizens and our police,” he continued. “I like to think that I am willing to do my part to try to improve those relations.”

Officer Collins teamed up with a friend who worked as a social worker, and together they established a “community-oriented relationship improvement program” to help build unity between law enforcement and the citizens they serve.

“If we all do our part, we can make this a better city for everybody,” he said.

Officer Collins leaves behind his son, Antonio, as well as his siblings, stepbrother, and many nieces and nephews, according to his obituary.

“Among his final words were, ‘Above all, I ask that you look out for each other. Watch each other’s backs, and hold each other accountable. Be the best person you can be today, and if you do that, you will make the Department better for everyone. I love each and every one of you,’” his obituary read.

Officer Collins will be laid to rest on Saturday.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Little Rock Police Department Officer Marc Collins, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.
