Hero Down: Guilford County Master Cpl. Rhonda Shaw Dies Of Medical Complications

Guildford County Sheriff's Office Master Corporal Rhonda Shaw's law enforcement career began in 1996.

Guilford County, NC – Guilford County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) Master Corporal Rhonda Shaw died of health complications on May 30.

Cpl. Shaw, 51, passed away while surrounded by her loved ones, according to her obituary.

“Shaw was an amazing woman and officer,” the GCSO said in a statement to WGHP. “All of us that had the privilege to work with this sweet lady can tell multitudes of stories how she was supportive and uplifting whenever you spoke with her.”

Cpl. Shaw was widely known as the “Work Mama” among her colleagues, according to her obituary.

“She was definitely the work mom and an angel of kindness needed here every day,” the GCSO told WGHP.

Cpl. Shaw’s law enforcement career began in 1996, when she joined the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, according to her obituary.

She began serving the GCSO in 2008.

Cpl. Shaw “loved” being a law enforcement officer, and “put everyone’s needs before her own” both on and off duty, according to her obituary.

“She strived hard to be the best that she could be in everything that she did and lived every day to its fullest,” her obituary read. “She never met a stranger and mothering people in general was one of her greatest gifts…She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.”

Cpl. Shaw leaves behind her husband, Darren, as well as her children, Stephanie, Bradley, and Hannah.

She is also survived by two young grandchildren, her parents, one sister, and several nieces and nephews.

“[Her] leadership and presence will truly be missed at the GCSO,” Guilford County Sheriff Danny Rogers said in a press release.

Cpl. Shaw was laid to rest on Monday.
