Hero Down: Dennison Village Police K9 Officer Andrew Keller Dies Unexpectedly
Dennison, OH – Dennison Village Police Department (DPD) K9 Officer Andrew Keller died unexpectedly on Monday morning.
“It is with very heavy hearts that we report to you that K9 Officer Andrew Keller of the Dennison Village Police Department (Ohio) passed away unexpectedly this morning,” Ohio Going Blue said in a Facebook post.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his K9, Bronco, and his family, both blood and blue,” the post read. “R.I.P. K9 Officer Keller, we thank you for your service and promise to never forget you. Please keep a vigilant watch over your brothers and sisters in blue from the streets of Heaven.”
Officer Keller and his German Shepherd K9 Eddie “Bronco” began training together at the Canton Police K9 Training Facility in June of 2017, according to the Times Reporter.
“There’s very few scenarios we could put him in that he wouldn’t do what I asked him to do,” Officer Keller said at the time. “It didn’t take us too long to warm up to each other. He and I are pretty well bonded. He likes to jump up on me and give hugs and everything you would expect a puppy to do.”
Officer Keller said that working with K9 Bronco was like “hanging out with your best friend all day…I couldn’t ask for more.”
Hundreds of people posted their condolences and shared memories of Officer Keller in response to Ohio Going Blue’s post.
“I just want everyone to know that Andrew saved my life from suicide 2 summers ago,” Alexandra Margaret wrote. “He came to the hospital & talked to me until I was ok. He was there for hours. He was a great friend, a caring man & I'm so not ok that he left us. Drew, I'm gonna miss you dude.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family Dennison Village Police Department K9 Officer Andrew Keller, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.
Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.
