Hero Down: Chicago Officer Brandon Krueger Kills Himself In Patrol Car At Work

A Chicago police officer died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the parking lot of his police station on Sunday.

Chicago, IL – Chicago Police Officer Brandon Krueger died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Sunday, after he shot himself in the head with his duty weapon while parked in his patrol vehicle in the police department’s parking lot.

Officer Krueger, 37, was pronounced dead at the Chicago Police Department’s Area South Fifth District station at 7:26 p.m. on July 8, the Cook County medical examiner’s office told the Chicago Sun-Times.

His death has been ruled a suicide.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and his police family,” department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told the Chicago Tribune on Monday. “We know they’re very affected. The superintendent talked to those folks today. It’s very difficult for us and we’ve made awareness about suicide a priority because we know we’re one of the departments with the highest rates of suicide.”

Officer Krueger, a five-year veteran of the Chicago PD, was assigned to the agency’s Bureau of Organized Crime, which handles the city’s narcotics, vice, and gang investigations, Guglielmi said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

He was also a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

“My beloved son is gone,” Officer Krueger’s mother, Diane Milani, wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday. “My soul is shattered. Please pray he is in peace with our Lord.”

“I love you to eternity,” the grieving mother added. “I’ll miss you every day of my life.”

Officer Krueger leaves behind his wife, Andrea, his children, Aiden, Keira, and Kendall, and his stepchildren, Tyler and Evan, according to his obituary.

He is also survived by his parents, sister, nieces, and nephews.

Officer Krueger will be laid to rest on Friday.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Chicago Police Officer Brandon Krueger, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.

Rest in peace brother, we'll take it from here. Thank you for your service, you will not be forgotten. God bless the family, friends, and co-workers of Officer Krueger during this time of tragic and painful loss. Please, brothers and sisters, reach out. There is help and things can get better. I lost a good friend on the job Saturday night who did the same thing and no one had a clue. No note, no signs, total shock. There is a better way.

Mo: What a horrible thing to say! You have no idea how much pain he was in. He probably suffered from PTSD which affected his relationship with his family and coworkers. Perhaps he felt they would be better off without him.

we need to do something about all these police suicides

This is one of the problems that happens when people are constantly in proximity to guns. These police suicides always seem to be accomplished by guns.

@Burgers Allday - I'm sure you think you're being cute, but your comment is totally inappropriate. Being exposed to assholes like you on a daily basis is why many police officers take their own life. Especially in a city like Chicago, the capital asshole producing city in this country.

@LEO0301 - Thank you for what you just said.

@LEO0301 Nope. The root cause of most suicides is mental illness. "assholes" don't cause that.

Mo; what kind of cowardly POS are you?

@ByAnyMeansNecessary True assholes may not in general cause mental illness, however dealing with ungrateful assholes on a daily basis who hate you despite the fact that you’re willing to lay down your life for them, miss your family, work shiftwork, miss important dates, birthdays holidays etc., and witness the horrors that most people can’t even imagine leads to depression, PTSD, etc...So I think it is a fair argument to say that assholes are at least a contributing factor

The reason most Police Officers use guns is because of their effectiveness. Officers see just about every way a person can kill other people or themselves and know that a handgun will be more likely to do the act and less messy than a rifle or blade. I have unfortunately had two close friends that committed suicide. Both after they retired. Please guys find some help. It does not mean you are weak. I know that you don’t want anyone in your Department to find out. Drive to a neighboring City if you have to. PTSD is deadly. It is worth fighting for you, your family and your fellow Officers.

Another suspicious death ruled a 'suicide' by opportunistic leadership either hopping on the mental health bandwagon - or with something more serious to conceal. Was he suicidal? Nope. Did an untold number of criminals operating in Chicago want him dead? Sure did. Stop assuming these deaths are the result of suicide...of ALL the crimes committed homicide is the type no one should be lazy about. Until proven otherwise - the officer was murdered.
