Hero Down: Chester PD Officer Bronelle Barrett-Lee Dies From Medical Emergency
Chester, PA – Chester Police Department (CPD) Officer Bronelle Barrett-Lee died in the line of duty on Saturday morning, after she suffered a medical emergency.
Officer Barrett-Lee was working in the CPD Operations Center when the medical event occurred, KYW reported.
She was found unresponsive at approximately 7:15 a.m., and Crozer Chester emergency medical personnel were immediately called to the scene, according to the Daily Times.
Officer Barrett-Lee died at the Operations Center, WCAU reported.
She served the CPD for over 22 years, CPD Commissioner Otis Blair told the Daily Times.
Commissioner Blair said that Officer Barrett-Lee was “an outstanding officer…of the highest honors.”
“She’d give you the shirt off her back if that’s what it took,” he added. “Our condolences go out to our family, her loved ones. She would want us to keep moving forward. We still have a job to do. Pray for her family, that’s all I can ask.”
Officer Barrett-Lee leaves behind four children, Chester Mayor Thaddeus Kirkland told the Daily Times.
“It’s a painful situation,” Kirkland said. “When you lose one of your…comrades, it’s painful.”
The mayor said that Officer Barrett-Lee was a “good person” who was devoted to “serving the people of Chester.”
Law enforcement officers from multiple Delaware County agencies passed beneath American flags draped from ladder trucks as they escorted the veteran officer’s body from the medical center to the medical examiner’s office, the Daily Times reported.
Onlookers lined the route, and some held their hands over their hearts or saluted as the fallen officer’s American flag-draped body passed by.
“What you see today is a fitting tribute to a fine officer,” Kirkland said of the procession.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Chester Police Department Officer Bronelle Barrett-Lee, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.
Rest easy, hero. We’ll hold the line from here.
