South Fulton, GA – Atlanta Police Officer Jarvis Rushin died in a single-vehicle crash early Monday morning.

The off-duty, 28-year-old officer was southbound on Highway 92 at approximately 3 a.m., when his vehicle veered off the roadway and slammed into a tree near Corn Creek Drive, WSB reported.

Officer Rushin was ejected from the car during the collision, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

South Fulton Police Lieutenant Derrick Rogers said that the investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing, and declined to release any details regarding why the veteran officer’s vehicle might have left the roadway, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

“It is with deep sadness we confirm the untimely passing of Officer Jarvis Rushin to a traffic accident in South Fulton County this morning,” the Atlanta Police Department (APD) said in a Facebook post on Sunday afternoon.

Officer Rushin joined the APD on July 3, 2013, and was assigned to Zone 3’s Field Operations Division.

“Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones,” the APD said. “Thank you for your service Officer Rushin. We will forever miss you.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Atlanta Police Officer Jarvis Rushin, both blood and blue. Thank you for your service.

In addition to the apparent fact that he was not wearing a seatbelt, it also sounds like his airbag may have been deactivated. I wish that blue lives matter would be more proactive about reporting this sort of information because it could save blue lives in the future --- and that is what we really all want.

i dont think he was wearing a seat belt
