Hero Down: Asher Officer Jarate Condit Killed On Way To Academy

Asher Reserve Officer Jarate Condit was on his way to police academy training when he crashed in his patrol car.

Asher, OK – An Asher Police Department (APD) reserve officer was killed in a fiery motor vehicle crash six miles north of the town he served on Tuesday, police said.

APD Reserve Officer Jarate Condit, 23, was on his way to police academy training in his Ford Crown Victoria patrol car vehicle at approximately 5:24 p.m., when the officer attempted to pass another motorist, and veered off of the right side of the roadway, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.

The patrol car collided with a cement culvert, rolled, and came to rest in a ravine, where it burst into flames, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OPD) told KFOR.

Good Samaritans rushed to Officer Condit’s aid, and pulled him from the cruiser, which was soon engulfed, KOKH reported.

Officer Condit, who was also a volunteer firefighter, was pronounced dead at the scene, The Shawnee News-Star reported.

Investigators said the officer was wearing a seatbelt, and that there were reports of freezing drizzle and wet roadways in the area on the day of the fatal crash.

The incident is still under investigation.

Officer Condit joined the department in October, 2017, and also worked full-time for a company in Stratford, APD Chief Tommy Gregg told the Shawnee News-Star.

Officer Condit was so ecstatic about being a police officer, that he accidentally fell asleep in his tactical boots the first night he got them, his fiancé, Tiffany Bulin, told KOKH.

“He was very proud of his uniform,” she said.

Bulin said that, just hours before his death, Officer Condit had asked her to marry him.

“We were going to wait until Valentine’s Day to tell everyone, tell his family,” she said.

The couple planned to move into a new home together on Sunday.

“I would just give anything for him to be here,” Bulin said through tears.

According to his obituary, Officer Condit has one son, Graysen.

Officer Condit will be laid to rest on Feb. 12.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Asher Police Department Reserve Officer Jarate Condit, both blood and blue. Godspeed, we will take the watch from here.

Thank you for your service.
