Hero Down: Adams County Chief Deputy Wayne Rabb Dies After Being Stung By Wasp

Adams County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Wayne Rabb died on alaphylactic shock on Sunday night.

Natchez, MS – Adams County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) Chief Deputy Wayne Rabb died of anaphylactic shock on Sunday night after being stung by a wasp.

The 66-year-old, off-duty chief deputy was stung while he was working in his yard, and had only recently learned that he was allergic to wasps’ venom, according to the Associated Press.

He was rushed to the merit Health Natchez emergency room, where he passed away at 8:36 p.m., The Natchez Democrat reported.

Adams County Coroner James Lee said that the entire community is mourning the loss of the longtime deputy.

“Wayne was a great friend and one of the best law enforcement officers in this state,” Lee told The Natchez Democrat. “He is one of those you can’t ever replace.”

Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said he and Deputy Rabb joined the ACSO together in 2003.

“I lost a chief deputy, but more importantly…I lost a brother last night,” Sheriff Patten told The Natchez Democrat. “What people need to know about Wayne Rabb is that he was a straight-up guy. You never had to question where he stood on issues, and he was a devout Christian to the core.”

Sheriff Patten said that Deputy Rabb was one-of-a-kind.

“When the Lord made Chief Wayne Rabb, I feel like he broke the mold,” the sheriff said. “He just doesn’t make them as good of a guy as he was made…Wayne lived his life to the fullest while he was here.”

“Not once have we had cross words, even though we didn’t agree on everything,” Sheriff Patten noted. “He told it to me straight and he was a big conscience in my head that every man needs. He was not a yes man, but he was a good Christian man.”

Deputy Rabb leaves behind his wife, Ann, and their children, Bryan and Rebecca, The Natchez Democrat reported.

He is also survived by his mother, siblings, three grandchildren, and many friends and family members, according to his obituary.

Deputy Rabb will be laid to rest on Wednesday.
