Sudbury, Mass. – The police department posted a photo of car on Nov. 24 with a Christmas tree on its roof that overtook the vehicle.
“One of our Officer’s stopped this vehicle on Route 20 today!” the post said.
The picture quickly went viral, eliciting amused comments from many people on Facebook.
“Stop! There’s no way that picture is for real!” Beth Van Marter Farrell posted.
“Is that a car IN a Christmas tree or a Christmas tree ON a car?? People are clueless,” said Steven Duffy.
“Confiscate the tree??” asked Randi Sargent.
“And it’s a Prius!!!” posted Sue O’Sullivan. “Even more spectacular.”
“I thought it was a picture of a car that crashed into somebody’s bushes,” said Rich Baillie.
Some posters said the photo reminded them of the 1989 National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation movie when the Griswold family tied an oversized tree to the hood of their station wagon.
“Hahaha, the Griswolds are in town,” wrote a Brian Joseph Parker.
“It’s not going in our yard, Russ, it’s going in our living room,” a Bob Musto wrote, quoting the Chevy Chase line when they picked up the Christmas tree.
Of course, some people took issue with the Sudbury police referring to the tree as a “Holiday” tree instead of a Christmas tree.
“Holiday tree?” asked Brian Guilliams. “Is it a Thanksgiving tree? Is it a Halloween tree? No it is a CHRISTMAS tree.”
“BTW. It’s called a Christmas Tree!!!!!” Rod Emmert Timmons posted.
“What’s a holiday tree anyway?” asked Myra Chapoton.
One commenter got fed up with the posts about it being called a holiday tree.
“If you’re that upset that they called it a 'holiday' tree, you really need to grow up and stop being closed-minded idiots,” said Amanda Ahrens. “There’s bigger things to worry about in this world.”
