VIDEO: Man Claims Border Patrol SUV Ran Him Over And Kept Going

A Native American man stepped in front of a Border Patrol SUV and was hit, but the driver never stopped to check on him.

Albuquerque, NM – A video has surfaced on social media that appeared to show a Border Patrol vehicle hitting a man who stepped directly in his vehicle's path (video below).

The video of the incident, which has been viewed more than a million times, was filmed June 14 on Tohono O’odham land, near the village of Topowa, about 60 miles southwest of Tucson, Arizona, the Arizona Daily Star reported.

Paulo Remes told the Arizona Daily Star that he was outside looking for a speaker to listen to music when he spotted the Border Patrol vehicle.

Remes, a member of the Tohono O’odham Nation that straddles the border of the United States and Mexico, said he recorded the Border Patrol SUV as it approached him, according to the New York Times.

He said he intentionally stepped out into the road, in front of the Border Patrol SUV while he was filming, because he thought he knew what would happen next, according to the Arizona Daily Star.

“I ran into the dirt road in front of my house, because I know they’ll try and hit me,” Remes said.

He said he was talking to a cousin on a landline phone at the time of the incident.

“I think he saw me on the landline and didn’t think I was recording,” Remes told the Arizona Daily Star.

In the video, Remes could be heard talking to his cousin on the phone as he filmed the Border Patrol marked vehicle approaching from the end of the dirt road.

The video showed Remes rushed to step directly in front of the moving SUV.

In the video, the Border Patrol vehicle struck Remes as it passed by him, and appeared to continue going.

“They ran me over, bro,” Remes said in the video.

Remes said the driver of the vehicle did not stop to check and see if he was hurt. He said he went to the hospital and was treated for minor bruising.

“I’m doing all right, I’m just a little sore, really,” Remes told the Arizona Daily Star.

The United States Border Patrol released a statement that it was “actively investigating” the incident, according to the New York Times.

“We do not tolerate misconduct on or off duty and will fully cooperate with all investigations of alleged unlawful conduct by our personnel,” the Border Patrol said in the statement.
