Uniformed Officer Is Refused Service At Verizon Store, Company Responds

Waltham, MA – A cell phone store employee refused to serve a uniformed Waltham police officer, and now the company is saying that the employee was actually refusing to serve numerous people.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, when on-duty Waltham Police Officer Dan Collins went into the Verizon store on Tower Road, WFXT reported.

“Cellular Sales, an independently owned authorized Verizon Wireless retailer, became aware of an incident at one of our Boston area retail locations in which apparently one of our sales representatives failed to provide service to multiple customers, including a uniformed police officer,” a Cellular Sales spokesperson told WFXT.

“Cellular Sales is committed to providing excellent service to all of our customers, and as a result of this incident, the sales representative has been terminated,” the spokesperson said.

Verizon also issued a statement regarding the refusal of service, and said they were investigating the incident because it involved an employee of one of their independently authorized retailers, WFXT reported.

“Providing excellent service to a first responder is a privilege,” Verizon representative David Weissmann told the Waltham Patch in an email. “We expect all of our partners to uphold our values and business practices.”

The Waltham Police Department confirmed that Cellular Sales contacted Officer Collins and apologized for the incident.

“The officer has relayed to the department that he is satisfied with the company's response to this situation,” Detective Sergeant Tim King said in a statement, according to the Waltham Patch. “As the matter has been resolved by the officer and the company, there will be no further comment at this time.”
