22-Year-Old Teacher Arrested For Sexual Relationship With 17-Year-Old Boy

Cottonwood, AZ – An Arizona middle school teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old boy has been arrested.
Isabella Bowman, 22, was placed on administrative leave by the Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District on Thursday, The Arizona Republic reported.
Police said that Bowman, who is a teacher at Dr. Daniel Bright School, engaged in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male who did not attend school in the district where Bowman taught.
Their interactions originated outside of any school setting, Cottonwood Police Sergeant Monica Kuhlt told The Arizona Republic.
Bowman was arrested for suspicion of sexual contact with a minor on Thursday.
In addition to the sexual assault allegation against her, Bowman was also placed on administrative leave for “alleged possession of marijuana,” Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District Superintendent Steve King wrote in a letter to students’ parents and guardians, according to The Arizona Republic.
Additional charges may be forthcoming, police said.
"COCSD is committed to the safety of all students and expects all staff to adhere to the highest ethical practices and conduct when it comes to our community’s children," King’s letter read. "We must all work together, staff, students, families and community to provide a safe learning environment for children to learn, grow and thrive."
Police said they were continuing to investigate the allegations in order to ensure Bowman did not have any other victims.
"Even though Bowman is a teacher at DDB it doesn’t appear any students of the Cottonwood Oak Creek District were involved, or that there was any inappropriate contact with those students," the department told KNXV.
Do you think that the victim not being a student at the same school makes a difference in this case? What about the age difference? We'd like to hear from you. Please let us know in the comments.

Coach Warren: Well, what can I tell ya? Coach Brakett: You can tell me why they call her Lassie. Coach Warren: Just get her up in the equipment room, and you'll find out. Aug 18, 2018 I can't speak for every 17 year old male, but that would have certainly filled one of my fantasies.

Aug 18, 2018 can anybody say "witch hunt". Ok, I get the why of most people in a position of authority that have sex with a minor get arrested, but 17? What state was this? I don't see anything wrong with a 22yr old having sex with a 17yr old. She wasn't his teacher, so didn't have a position of authority over him; their age difference wasn't that egregious. so other than her job (and she was married, which isn't illegal in most states), what is the problem?

Aug 17, 2018 Here is the law in Arizona, "Individuals aged 17 or younger in Arizona are not legally able to consent to sexual activity, and such activity may result in prosecution for statutory rape. Arizona statutory rape law is violated when an individual has sexual intercourse with a person under age 18." Now that being said they also have this law, "Under subsection (f) of Arizona Revised Statutes 13-1407, your defense attorney can bring a Romeo and Juliet defense if the victim is age 15, 16, or 17 and the defendant is under 19 years of age or attending high school and is no more than 24 months older than the victim and the conduct is consensual." So every teenager in the State of Arizona aged 15 to 17, male and female, that has had sexual relations that does not fit this example is a VICTIM, (because the can't give consent) and based on that, there should be MASS arrest taking place statewide.........just saying, the law is the law.......(sarcasm)...

Aug 17, 2018 What the reader needs to realize when you say "no big deal" is what if the situation was reversed (gender) and it was your own daughter or if this was done to you personally by an older person when you were much younger.
